ORDINANCE NO. 698
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF VERNON DECLARING ITS INTENTION
3 TO CLOSE-UP~ VACATE AND ABANDON A PORTION OF ST. CHARLES
STREET IN THE CITY OF VERNON, COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES,
4 CALIFORNIA.
5 THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOW
SECTION 1:
That it is the intention of the City Council of
the City of Vernon to order the vacation of a portion of that certain public
street in the City of Vernon commonly referred to as St. Charles Street. and
more particularly described as follows:
All the real property situate in the City of Vernon.
County of Los Angeles. State of California. and being a portion
of C. M. Moore's Home Place as shown on map recorded in
Book 7. Page 82 of Maps, records of said County. described
as follows:
Beginning at a point in the northerly line of said C. M.
Mooreis Home Place S. 89045' 20" W.. 1212.77 feet from the
intersection of said northerly line with the westerly line of
Santa Fe Avenue (80 feet wide). said point of beginning being in
the southerly line of Replat of New Vernon as shown on map
recorded in Book 52. Page 45 of Miscellaneous Records of said
County and being in the southerly prolongation of the easterly
line of St. Charles Street as shown on Replat of New Vernon
recorded in Book 4. Page 64 of Maps. records of said County;
thence S. 890 45' 20" W. along said northerly line of C. M.
Moore's Home Place 50.01 feet to a point in the southerly pro-
longation of the westerly line of said St. Charles Street; thence
S. 00 36 i 22" W. along said southerly prolongation of the westerly
line of St. Charles Street 393.62 feet. more or less. to a point
in the northerly line of 48th Street (50 feet wide). said northerly
line being the northerly line of a strip of land conveyed to the
City of Vernon by deed recorded in Book 20325. Page 106. Official
Records of said County; thence N. 890 40' 15" E. along said
northerly line of 48th Street 50.01 feet to a point in the southerly
prolongation of the easterly line of said St. Charles Street. said
point being S. 890 40' 15" W.. 1215.70 feet from the westerly
line of Santa Fe Avenue (80 feet wide); thence N. 00 36' 22" E.
along the southerly prolongation of the easterly line of said
St. Charles Street 393.55 feet, more or less. to the point of
beginning; containing an area of 0.45178 acre. more or less;
referred to herein as Parcel One. .
SECTION 2:
That the City Council of the City of Vernon
elects to handle these proceedings under the provisions of Division 9. Part 3
of the Streets and Highways Code of the State of California.
SECTION 3:
The City Council of the City of Vernon hereby
adopts as a map or plan of the proposed vacation of said St. Charles Street

2 Vacation of Portion of St. Charles Street in the City of Vernon, County of
3 I Los Angeles. California II and directs that said map or plan be filed in the
4 City Clerkls Office of the City of Vernon for particulars as to the proposed
5 vacation.

SECTION 4:
That it is the intention of the City Council to
7 vacate Parcel One. a portion of St. Charles Street. and obtain fee simple title
8 to property described as follows:
9 That portion of Lot 7 in Block 4 of New Vernon, in the
City of Vernon. County of Los Angeles. State of California. as
10 shown on the map recorded in Book 4. Page 64 of Maps. in the
office of the County Recorder of said County and that portion of
11 C. M. Moore IS Home Place. as per map recorded in Book 7.
Page 82 of Maps. records of said County, described as follows:

Beginning at the northeast corner of said Lot 7; thence
westerly along the northerly line of said Lot 7 to a line parallel
with and 40 feet westerly measured at right angles. from the
easterly line of said Lot 7; thence southerly along said parallel
line and its southerly prolongation to the north line of 48th Street
as described in the deed to the City of Vernon recorded on
September 27. 1943 as Instrument No. 670 in Book 20325. Page
106 of Official Records of said County; thence easterly along
said last mentioned north line to the southerly prolongation of the
easterly line of said Lot 7; thence northerly along said prolonged
easterly line and said easterly line to the point of beginning;
said parcel being referred to herein as Parcel Two;

for the purpose of opening a new street to be known as
Trowbridge
20 Street. between 46th Street and 48th Street. approximately 250 feet East of
21 the proposed vacated street. which new street will be 40 feet in width and
22 approximately 535.11 feet in length. between the southerly boundary line of
23 46th Street and the northerly boundary line of 48th Street. Upon acquiring
24 fee simple title to Parcel Two and the vacating of the portion of St. Charles
25 Street. described as Parcel One. the City of Vernon will quitclaim to the

owners of land adjacent to or fronting on said portion of St. Charles Street
all of the Cityls right. title or interest in St. Charles Street described as
Parcel One.
SECTION 5:
The City Council of the City of Vernon does
hereby fix the time for the hearing of all persons interested in or objecting
to the proposed vacation. which time and place shall be March 19, 1957. at

SECTION 6:
The City Council of the City of Vernon
directs that notices of the proposed street vacation be posted conspicuously
along the line of the street proposed to be vacated. and such notices shall
state the passage of this Ordinance of Intention, and the time and place of
hearing for all persons interested in or objecting to the proposed vacation.
Said notices shall be posted not more than 300 feet apart and at least three
(3) of such notices shall be posted along the line of said street proposed to
be vacated.
SECTION 7:
There being no newspaper printed. published
and circulated in the City of Vernon. the City Clerk is hereby directed to
certify to the passage of this Ordinance and shall post same. or cause same
to be posted, in three of the most public places in the City of Vernon. to wit:
the northwest corner of 38th Street and Santa Fe Avenue; the northeast
corner of Leonis Boulevard and Pacific Boulevard; and on the bulletin board
in the lobby of the City Hall of said City. located at 4305 Santa Fe Avenue.
all in the City of Vernon. Los Angeles County. California; that this ordinanc
shall be in full force and effect thirty (30) days from and after the date of
posting.
