AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF VERNON REGULATING THE SALE OF
GOODS~ WARES~MERCHANDISE# NEWSPAPERS.. MAGAZINES#
PERIODICALS OR OTHER PRINTED MATTER IN OR ON THE PUBLIC
STREETS OF THE CITY OF VERNON.

6 THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOW

SECTION 1:
No person shall sell or offer for sale any goods,
8 wares. merchandise. newspapers. magazines. periodicals or other printed
9 matter while upon that portion of any public street within the City of Vernon
10 between the curbs thereof. except in or upon any traffic island or safety
11 zone therein. Provided. however. persons engaged in selling or offering
12 for sale or disposing of goods. wares. merchandise. newspapers. magazines.
13 periodicals or any such printed matter may sell. offer for sale. cry. call
14 attention to. hawk. advertise and proclaim the same upon any sidewalk.

SECTION 2:
No person. under the age of 12 years. shall
sell or offer for sale any goods. wares. merchandise. newspapers.maga-
zines. periodicals or other printed matter while upon any portion of a public
street in the City of Vernon. which term. as used herein. includes side-
walks. traffic islands and safety zones. This section shall not prohibit
persons. except as otherwise prohibited by State law. from soliciting the
sale of or delivery of newspapers. magazines. periodicals and other
printed matter to residences or places of business fronting upon a public
street.
SECTION 3:
Any person. firm or corporation violating
any of the provisions of this Ordinance is guilty of a misdemeanor and
punishable by a fine of not more than five hundred dollars ($500.00) or by
imprisonment in the County Jail of the County of Los Angeles. or in the
City Jail of the City of Vernon. as the committing magistrate may direct.
for not more than six (6) months. or by both such fine and imprisonment
in the discretion of the Court.
SECTION 4:
There being no newspaper printed. published
and circulated in the City of Vernon. the City Clerk is hereby directed to

1 certify to the passage of this Ordinance and shall post same. or cause same
2 to be posted. in three of the most public places in the City of Vernon. to wit:
3 the northwest corner of 38th Street and Santa Fe Avenue; the northeast
4 corner of Leonis Boulevard and Pacific Boulevard; and on the bulletin board
5 in the lobby of the City Hall of said City. located at 4305 Santa Fe Avenue.
6 all in the City of Vernon. Los Angeles County.. California; that this ordinanc
7 shall be in full force and effect thirty (30) days from and after the date of
8 posting thereof.
9 ADOPTED and APPROVED this 21st day of October. 1958.
