AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF VERNON AMENDING ORDINANCE
3 NO. 714, ARTICLE V" SECTIONS 5101 511 AND 512 THEREOF~ TO
INCREASE THE DOG LICENSING IN THE CITY OF VERNON.

5 THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON ORDAINS AS FOLLOWS:

SECT ION 1:
Sections 510, 511 and 512, Article V of
7 Ordinance No. 714 of the City of Vernon are hereby amended to read as
8 follows:

Sec. 510:
A license for an individual dog shall be in
the form of a receipt for the One Dollar ($1.00) paid for the
dog license tag and the additional amount, if any, paid for the
license.
Sec. 511:
Every person owning or having custody
or control of a dog of either sex over the age of four (4) months
which has been honorably discharged from the armed forces of
the United States, or a dog of either sex owned by a blind person,
if a certificate is filed with the Poundmaster executed by some
recognized dog training institution which certifies that such dog
has been successfully trained to lead the blindl shall procure a
dog license tag and a license, which dog license tag and license
shall be good while such dog is owned or harbored by the same
person. No fee shall be charged for such license over and above
the One Dollar ($1. 00) required for the dog license tag.
Sec. 512: Every person owning or having custody or
control of any dog or dogs over the age of four (4) months in the
City of Vernon not covered by the provisions of Section 511 shall

first obtain an annual license from the Poundmaster for each of
such dogs and at the same time obtain a dog license tag and for
such license or licenses, in addition to the One Dollar ($1. 00)
fee for the dog license tag, shall pay Three Dollars ($3.00) or
a total of Four Dollars ($4.00) in all.

SECT ION 2:
In all other respects said Ordinance No.
2 714 shall remain in full force and effect.

SECTION 3:
There being no newspaper printed, published,
4 and circulated in the City of Vernon, the City Clerk is hereby directed to
5 certify to the passage of this Ordinance and shall post same, or cause same
6 to be posted, in three of the most public places in the City of Vernon, to wit:
7 the northwest corner of 38th Street and Santa Fe Avenue; the northeast
8 corner of Leonis Boulevard and Pacific Boulevard; and on the bulletin
9 board in the lobby of the City Hall of said City, located at 4305 Santa Fe
10 Avenue. all in the City of Vernon, Los Angeles County, California; that
11 this ordinance shall be in full force and effect thirty (30) days from and
12 after the date of posting thereof.

cost of operating this department by the pound revonue.

Los Ange18s County Auditor-Control:Ler's office. The:! present
B.00 fee has been in effect since July 1, 1955, and during
t,his period the operational cost of our department has
increased in accordance ....-1.th -the current economic trend,
making the above action necessary.

Supervisors considered and approved the abov'3 recommenda-
tion as submitted by Yr. L. S. Hollinger, our Chief
Administrative Officer andinstrucG':J''! County Counsel to
prepare the necessary amendments to the ordinance establish-
ing a :~)-+.:)O fee for all dogs four r.lonths of age a'1d older,
etfective July 1, 1959.
We feel certaintha t you are in accord ,vi th the bas~ c policy
of)ur a..nimal regulation prOer9T'1 whereby our entire cost is
orfse t by pound revenue. As such, the cost of the entire
pro:Jram is carried by the animal or-mers Ni thin the areas
served. In view of the above 9C tion, we are asking tha t your
Ci ty 21'1end your Pow1d Ordi.nance to conform with the aboY3, to
become effective July 1, 1959. Our present $3.00 fee includes
50 cents for the dog license tag plus Jp2.50 for the license.
This should be a:nended to provide for a $1.00 fee for the
license tag and J~3.00 for the 1ic"'Dse, a total of :$4.00 in all.
