The Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training pro-
vides for minimum standards for recruitment and training.
The Vernon Police Department meets, and in some cases, ex-

reimbursement in an amount not to exceed fifty (50 %) per
cent of a trainee's earnings at straight time during 160
working hours, when said trainee has completed the pre -
scribed Course of Training. To qualify for this reimburse-
ment, the City must adopt an Ordinance providing that the
City will adhere to the standards for recruitment and train-
ing established by the Commission.
In view of the above, it is respectfully requested that the
following Ordinance be adopted:

It is requested that an ordinance be passed accepting the
requirements of Section 13522 of the Penal Code relating
to Training of Law Enforcement Officers.
This department has required, in the past, and intends to
continue to require that all new applicants have at least
the minimum training as outlined by the Commission on
Peace Officer Standards and Training. In fact, require-
ments for officers of the Vernon Police Department far
exceed the recommended iminimum standards and training.
A copy of a sample ordinance is attached.
