AUDITORS IN REPLY REFER TO: APR 2 (;1) G-lb 1963 7Y(P It is recommended that Ordinance No. 694, which regulates the disposal of refuse in sanitary sewers be amended to allow the disposal of solid wastes, properly ground, from the preparation, cooking and disposing of food and from the handling, storage and sale of produce. Sunny Sally, Incorporated, 2705 Leonis Boulevard, have requested per- mission to pulverize celery, lettuce and cabbage and dispose of this material into the sewerage system. The amount of material to be disposed is 5, 000 to 6, 000 pounds daily 0 The industrial waste section of the Los Angeles County Sanitation District reports that this type of waste is acceptable into their sewerage system. Investigation of two similar type operations, one located in the CMD area, the other in Huntington Park indicated that no increase in sewer maintenance will be necessary. The operation in Huntington Park has disposed of similar wastes at a rate of 4,000 pounds per hour. Attached is a copy of Ordinance No. 694 showing deletions and additions. The City Attorney is preparing the recommended amended ordinance in final form. Respectfully submitted, ,,~~k ~ R. H.
