1 ORDINANCE NO. 755
2 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF VERNON PROHIBITING FOR TUNE
TELLING IN SAID CITY.

4 THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1:
It shall be unlawful to follow or practice the
6 calling.. vocation or avocation of palmists.. fortune telling.. clairvoyants.. menta
7 telepathists.. astrologists or any other calling~ vocation or avocation by which
S such person claims or purports to tell the past act or history of another or
9 who claims or purports to fortell or prophesy any future act or life of another
10 person and for such services rendered receive a consideration of any kind.

SECTION 2:
All Ordinances in conflict herewith hereby are
12 repealed.

SECTION 3:
VALIDITY. Should any section.. subsection..
14 clause.. or provision of this Ordinance for any reason be held to be invalid or
15 unconstitutional.. such invalidity or unconstitutionality shall not affect the
16 validity or constitutionality of the remaining portions of this Ordinance; it
17 being hereby expressly declared that this Ordinance and each section3 subsec-
IS tion.. sentence.. clause.. and phrase hereof would have been prepared.. proposed.
19 approved~ and adopted irrespective of the fact that anyone or more sections~
20 subsections.. sentences.. clauses.. or phrases be declared invalid or unconstitu-
21 tional.

SECTION 4:
VIOLATION. PENALTY. No person shall
violate any provision or fail to comply with any of the requirements of this
Ordinance. Any person violating any of the provisions or failing to comply with
any of the requirements of this Ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.
Any person convicted of a misdemeanor under the provisions of this Ordinance
shall be punishable by a fine of not more than Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00)
or by imprisonment for a period not exceeding six (6) motl_ths.. or by both such
fine and imprisonment. Each such person shall be guilty of a separate offense
for each and every day during any portion of which any violation of any provisio
of this Ordinance is committed, continued.. or permitted by such person and
shall be punishable accordingly.

SECTION 5:
There is no newspaper printed and published
within said City of Vernon. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage and
adoption of this Ordinance and to its approval by the Mayor and thereupon said
Ordinance shall be posted by or under the direction of the City Clerk in three
(3) public places in said City of Vernon.. to wit:
(1) Bulletin board in the lobby of the City Hall of the City of Vernon
4305 Santa Fe Avenue.

(2) Northwest corner of 38th Street and Santa Fe Avenue.
(3) Northeast corner of Leonis Boulevard and Pacific Boulevard.

Said Ordinance shall be posted within fifteen (15) days after its passage.
Passed and adopted by the City Council of the City of Vernon..
12 California at a regular meeting of said City Council held on the 3 day of
13 June.. 1964.
