1 ORDINANCE NO. 776
2 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF VERNON GRANTING A FRANCHISE TO THE
LOS ANGELES JUNCTION RAILWAY COMPANY" THEIR SUCCESSORS AND
3 ASSIGNS" TO OPERATE AND MAINTAIN A SPUR TRACK ACROSS ATLANTIC
BOULEVARD IN THE CITY OF VERNON. AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES
4 OR RESOLUTIONS IN CONFLICT HEREWITH.
5 The City Council of the City of Vernon finds that the Los Angeles
6 Junction Railway Company is a railroad engaged in interstate commerce.
7 THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1:
That a franchise be, and the same is hereby
granted to the Los Angeles Junction Railway Company, a corporation, their
successors and assigns, for a term of fifty (50) years, to lay, construct, main-
tain, use and operate a railroad spur track across Atlantic Boulevard, in the

City of Vernon, County of Los Angeles, State of California, the center line of
said spur track described as follows:

Beginning at a point in the westerly line of Atlantic Boulevard
as widened by deed to The County of Los Angeles recorded
in Book 3927, Page 83, Official Records of said County,
distant northerly 510.00 feet, measured at right angles, from
the southerly line of the 500 foot channel of the Los Angeles
River as delineated on map of Tract No. 5974 recorded in
Book 69, Page 67 of Maps, Records of Los Angeles County;
thence southeasterly parallel to said southerly line of the
500 foot channel of the Los Angeles River 100 feet, more or
less, to a point in the easterly line of Atlantic Boulevard.
SECTION 2:
The right, privilege and permission hereby
21 granted shall be exercised and enjoyed subject to the terms and conditions as
22 I set forth in Ordinance No. 701 heretofore adopted by the City of Vernon, and
'23 the acceptance of this Franchise or any of the rights or privileges granted
24 hereby shall evidence the Grantee's agreement to all of the terms and conditions

25 of said Ordinance No. 701 except that a waiver is hereby granted to that portion
~6 of City Ordinance No. 701 requiring the use of 128 lb. Trilby Rail in street
27 crossing and authority is hereby granted to substitute 131 or 133 lb. rail in
28 street crossing covered by this Ordinance.
SECTION 3:
All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances in conflict
30 herewith are hereby repealed.

There being no newspaper printed, published and
circulated in the City of Vernon, the City Clerk is hereby directed to certify to

1 the passage of this Ordinance and shall post same, or cause same to be posted,
2 in three of the most public places in the City of Vernon, to wit: the northwest
3 corner of 38th Street and Santa Fe Avenue; the northeast corner of Leonis
4 Boulevard and Pacific Boulevard and on the bulletin board in the lobby of the
5 City Hall of said City, located at 4305 Santa Fe Avenue, all in the City of
6 Vernon, Los Angeles County, California; that this Ordinance shall be in full
7 force and effect thirty (30) days from and after the date of posting.
8 ADOPTED and APPROVED this 1st day of March, 1966.

Gentlemen:
Shortly after the first of this year while we were arranging
to pay our annual franchise fees for various street crossings
of our system, it was discovered that Ordinance No. 1340,
which granted our predecessor Arcadia Bandini Baker Estate
Company a franchise to construct and maintain a single spur
track over Atlantic Avenue, had expired. This Ordinance was
adopted on September 28, 1925 and ran for a term of 40 years.
It was subsequently assigned to Central Manufacturing
District, Inc. on January 19, 1929. It specifically covered
what is now our running track in Atlantic just north of the
Los Angeles River Bridge (assigned P.U.C. No. 25C-l.46C).
With this letter, we respectfully request that this franchise
be renewed.
