2 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF VERNON AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 769 OF
THE CITY OF VERNON.

41 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon has
5 previously enacted Ordinance No. 769, adopting the Uniform Building
6 Code, 1964 Edition, as described in Ordinance No. 769, together with
7 such modifications as have been set forth, pursuant to Ordinance
8 No. 769, and
9 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon has
10 determined that there should be amendments made to said Ordinance
11 No. 769,
12 I NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Vernon
13 does ordain as follows:

SECTION 1. Ordinance No. 769 of the City of Vernon is
15 hereby amended by adding thereto further amendments to the Uniform
16 Building Code, 1964 Edition, as described in Ordinance No. 769, as

Said Uniform Building Code, 1964 Edition, as referred to
in Section 1 of Ordinance No. 769, is hereby amended as follows:
Section 5205 of said Code is hereby striken in its
entirety, and in lieu of said section there is inserted the
following:
ttSection 5205(a). Regardless of the provisions in
24
Chapter 34, no plastics shall be used in skylights installed
on any roof in the City of Vernon unless the skylight is
25

constructed of approved plastics and protective measures are
taken to prevent any person on the roof from walking or
28
standing on the skylight. Such protection shall consist of
a suitable physical barrier erected around the skylight, with
29

details, installation, and construction standards approved by
31

the Superintendent of Building and the Fire Chief of the City
of Vernon.

It b) All existing plastic skylights which may be deter-
2 mined to be hazardous to any person or persons on any roof in
~ the City of Vernon shall be examined by the Superintendent
4 of Building or his authorized agent and/or the Fire Chief of

the City of Vernon and his authorized agent. If said plastic
skylight or skylights shall be determined to be hazardous,

the Superintendent of Building shall require that the owner
or person in charge of the affected building shall erect a

protective barrier around such hazardous skylight, or remove
the same, said barrier to be in conformity with Section 5205
(a) as set forth above, and said removal of said skylight to
be replaced with a roof construction conforming to this Code,
for the location, type of construction, and occupancy of the
building."
SECTION 2: Every violation of this Ordinance is hereby
16 declared to be a public nuisance.

SECTION 3: Any person, firm, or corporation violating
18 any of the provisions of this Ordinance shall be guilty of a mis-
19 demeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in an amount
20 not exceeding Three Hundred Dollars ($300.00), or be imprisoned
21 in the County Jail of the County of Los Angeles, or the City Jail
22 of the City of Vernon, as the committing magistrate may direct,
23 for not more than ninety (90) days, or by both such fine and
24 imprisonment, in the discretion of the court. Each day such
25 violation is committed or permitted to continue, shall constitute
26 a separate offense and shall be punishable as such hereunder.

SECTION 4: If any section, paragraph, clause, or pro-
28 vision of this Ordinance shall be held invalid, the invalidity of
29 such section, paragraph, clause, or provision shall not affect any
30 of the other provisions of this Ordinance, nor any of the other
31 provisions of Ordinance No. 769.

SECTION 5: There being no newspaper printed, published,

1 and circulated in the City of Vernon, the City Clerk is hereby
2 directed to certify to the passage of this Ordinance and shall post
~ the same, or cause the same to be posted, in three of the most
4 public places in the City of Vernon, to wit: The northwest corner
5 of 38th Street and Santa Fe Avenue; the northeast corner of Leonis
6 Boulevard and Pacific Boulevard; and on the bulletin board in the
7 lobby of the City Hall of said City, located at 4305 Santa Fe
8 Avenue, all in the City of Vernon, County of Los Angeles, state of
9 California; that this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect
10 thirty (30) days from and after the final adoption of this Ordinanc .
