2 AN ORDINA,NC:E OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF' THE CITY OF VEHNON, PROHIBIT-
ING THE DISCHARGE OF ANY GUN OR FIREARM OR OTHEH SPECIFIED APPAR-
3 ATIS WITHIN THE CITY OF VERNON.
4 THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1: It shall be unlawful for any person or
6 persons to discharge any gun or firearm, including any pistol,
7 revolver, shotgun, or rifle, within the corporate limits of the
8 Ci ty of Vernon.
SECTION 2: It shall be unlawful for any person or

10 persons to discharge within the corporate limits of the City of
11 Vernon any air rifle, toy pistol, toy gun, slingshot, or any
12 other air, gas, or spring operated gun, weapon, apparatus, or
13 instrument for the purpose of throwing or projecting missiles
14 of any kind in such manner as to endanger the safety of persons
15 or property within the City of Vernon.

SECTION 3: The following shall be exempt from Sections
1 and 2 above:
(a) Shooting galleries or licensed archeries
18 within the City of Vernon; (b) a rifle or pistol range operated
19 in connection with an educational or training program of the
20 United States, the State of california, or any governmental
21 subdivision thereof; (c) a private building within which such
22 instrument may be fired or discharged in such manner as not to
23 endanger persons or property, and in such manner as to prevent
24 the missile projected from traversing in space outside of said
25 private building; (d) any law enforcement officer in the per-
26 formance of his duties.

SECTION 4. If any article, section, subsection,
28 sentence, clause, phrase, or portion of this Ordinance is for
29 any reason held to be invalid or unconstitutional by the decision
30 of any court of competent jurisdiction, such decision shall not
31 affect the validity of the remaining portion or portions of this
32 Ordinance.

SECTION 5: All ordinances or parts thereof in conflict
2 herewith are hereby repea led.

SECTION 6: Every violation of this Ordinance is hereby
4 declared to be a public nuisance.

SECTION 7: Violation of this Ordinance is punishable
6 by a fine of not more than Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) or by
7 imprisonment in the County Jailor the City Jail of the City of
8 Vernon for not more than six (6) months, or by both such fine
9 and imprisonment as the committing magistrate may direct. Each
10 day ~lring any portion of which any violation of any the provi-
11 sions of this Ordinance is committed, makes such violation a
12 separate offense.

SECTION 8- There being no newspaper of general circu-
14 lation printed, published and circulated in the City of Vernon,
15 the City Clerk is hereby directed to certify to the passage of
16 this Ordinance and shall post the same, or cause the same to be
17 posted, in three of the most public places in said City, to wit:
18 The northwest corner of 38th street and Santa Fe Avenue, the
19 northeast corner of Leonis Boulevard and pacific Boulevard, and
20 on the bulletin board in the lobby of the City Hall of said City,
21 located at 4305 Santa Fe Avenue, all in the City of Vernon,
22 Los Angeles County, california.
