AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF VERNON AMENDING SECTION l6el8-2 OF THE
CODE OF THE CITY OF VERNON, CALIFORNIA, 195ge
WHEREAS, an Engineering and Traffic Study for the estab-
lishing of speed limits on District Boulevard has been presented t
the City Council of the City of Vernon, and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon desires
to adopt the recommendation of the Director of Public Works to
effect a forty miles per hour speed limit on said route,

NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON
DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION l: That Section l6.l8-2 of the Code of the City
13 of Vernon, California, 1959, is hereby amended to read as follows:

The city council hereby determines, upon the basis
15 of an engineering and traffic study, to wit: The Washington
16 Boulevard corridor traffic study by the county road department,
17 recommending that a speed greater than twenty-five miles per
18 hour would facilitate the orderly movement of vehicular traffic
19 and would be reasonable and safe upon Washington Boulevard with-
20 in the city, and the District Boulevard engineering and traffic
21 study for establishing speed limits, prepared by the Department
22 of Public Works of the City of Vernon, recommending that a
23 speed greater than twenty-five miles per hour would facilitate
24 the orderly movement of vehicular traffic on District Boulevard
25 between Downey Road and Atlantic Boulevard and would be
26 reasonable and safe upon said street.
27 It is hereby determined that the speed permitted and
28 declared to be the prima facie speed limit on Washington Boule-
29 vard within the City of Vernon, and upon District Boulevard
30 between Downey Road and Atlantic Boulevard within the City of
:31 Vernon shall be forty miles per houro
32 Every violation of this section by propelling a vehicle

1 in excess of the speed limit provided for herein is hereby
2 declared to be a public nuisance."

SECTION 2: The Traffic Engineer of the City of Vernon
4 is hereby directed to post appropriate signs giving notice of
5 said maximum speed limit.
6 SECTION 3: Every violation of Section l6.l8-2, as set
7 forth above by propelling a vehicle in excess of the speed limit
8 provided for therein is hereby declared to be a public nuisance.
9 SECTION 4: Any person violating any of the provisions of
10 Section l6.l8-2 as set forth above shall be deemed guilty of a
11 traffic infraction, in accordance with Section l6.l9 of the Code
12 of the City of Vernon, California, 1959.
13 SECTION 5: There being no newspaper printed, published or
14 circulated in the City of Vernon, the City Clerk is hereby direc-
15 ted to certify to the passage of this Ordinance and shall post the
16 same or cause the same to be posted in three (3) of the most pub-
17 lic places in the City of Vernon, to wit: the northwest corner of
18 38th Street and Santa Fe A,renue; the northeast corner of Leonis
19 Boulevard and Pacific BoulE~vard; and the bulletin board in the
20 lobby of the City Hall of said City located at 4305 Santa Fe Ave-
21 nue, all in the City of Vernon, Los Angeles County, State of Cali-
22 fornia; that this OrdinancE~ shall be in full force and effect
23 thirty (30) days from and after the final passage of the same.
