HOGAN, POLICE CHIEF ;/ CITY HALL 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA 90058 October 26, 1976 1tZ1Y dll / I IN REPLY REFER TO. G-lb Honorable City Council City of Vernon Vernon, California Gentlemen: Although water rates were increased in January 1976, the Financial Statement of the City of Vernon, prepared by Haskins and Sells continues to show a deficiency of Water Department revenue over expenses for the year ended June 30, 1976. This deficiency can be traced to continued increases in the cost of electric power, replenishment and purchased water, along with a decrease in water useage. To offset this deficiency of revenue, we have prepared a proposed Ordinance to amend the portions of the City Code establishing rates for the sale of water by the Water Department. We are also proposing a change in the rate blocks and the minimum monthly charge for fire sprinkler connections. The present and proposed rates and charges are as follows: Monthly Amount (Cubic feet) Rates Present Proposed Present Proposed First 20,000 30,000 29<:: 30<:: Next 180,000 300,000 25<:: 27<:: AllOver 200,000 330,000 21<:: 24<:: Honorable City Council October 26, 1976 Page 2 For fire service connections, monthly charge: Size of Connection Monthly Amount Present proposed 2 inch 3 inch 4 inch 6 inch 8 inch 10 inch Each Fire Hydrant $ 3.00 6.00 9.00 12.00 15.00 25.00 5.00 $ 10.00 10.00 14.00 22.00 30.00 40.00 5.00 We have also included a proposed change in the Rules and Regulations for the operation of the Water Department, concerning the time when water bills are due and payable. A letter covering these changes in rates and rules and regulations will be prepared and sent to all customers. It is recommended that the proposed Ordinance and the proposed Rules and Regulations be adopted. Respectfully submitted, u~~~ r <k~ Arthur E.
