AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF VERNON RELATING TO THE ABATEMENT OF
DANGEROUS BUILDINGS AND ADOPTING THE UNIFORM CODE FOR THE ABATE-
MENT OF DANGEROUS BUILDINGS, 1976 EDITION
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON DOES HEREBY ORDAIN as
follows:

Section 1. Article VIII is hereby added to the Vernon City
Code to read as follows:
"ARTICLE VIII. CODE FOR THE ABATEMENT OF DANGEROUS BUILDINGS

Sec. 7.80. Uniform Code for the Abatement of Dangerous
Buildings - Adopted by Reference
The Uniform Code for the Abatement of Dangerous
Buildings, 1976 Edition, published by the International
Conference of Building Officials, except as provided in
this Article, is hereby adopted.

The Uniform Code for the Abatement of Dangerous
Buildings, 1976 Edition, is hereby amended as follows:
(a) Sec. 205 is hereby amended to read as follows:
'Board of Appeals

Sec. 205. In order to provide for final interpre-
tation of the provisions of this Code and to hear
appeals provided for hereunder, there is hereby
established a Board of Appeals consisting of five
members of the City Council. The Building Official
shall act as Secretary to said Board. All decisions
and findings of the Board shall be rendered in
writing to the applicant with a copy to the Building
Official. Appeals to the Board shall be processed
in accordance with the provisions contained in
Sec. SOl of this Code. I

(b) Sec. 203 is hereby amended to read as follows:

'Violations and Penalties

Sec. 203. No person, firm, or corporation, whether
as owner, lessee, sublessee, or occupant, shall
erect, construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move,
improve, remove, demolish, equip, use, occupy, or
maintain any building or premises, or cause or per-
mit the same to be done, contrary to or in violation

of any of the provisions of this Code or any order
issued by the Building Official hereunder. Any
person violating the provisions of this Section
shall be guilty of a misdemeanor for each day such
violation continues.'

Section 2. Public Hearing
A public hearing shall be convened by the City Council on

March IS, 1977, at 2:00 o'clock p.m. or as soon thereafter as the

matter may be heard, at the (temporary) Council Chambers of the
Vernon City Council located at 4305 Santa Fe Avenue, Vernon, Cali-

fornia, for the purpose of considering adoption of the 1976 edition
16

of the Uniform Code for the Abatement of Dangerous Buildings.
The
City Clerk shall post a notice of said hearing, in the same manner
18

as provided for the posting of ordinances, stating that said
hearing shall be conducted, the purpose of said hearing, and the
copies of said Code are on file with the City Clerk and are
21
available for public inspection.
Such notice shall also be pub-
22
lished in accordance with Government Code Section 6060 in the
23
LOS ANGELES DAILY JOURNAL which the City Council finds to be a
24
newspaper of general circulation nearest to the City most appro-
25
priate for this purpose.

Section 3. Posting of Ordinance

There being no newspaper printed, published or circulated
28
in the City of Vernon, the City Clerk is hereby directed to certify

1 to the passage of this Ordinance and shall post the same, or cause
2 the same to be posted, in three (3) of the most public places in
3 the City of Vernon, to wit: the northwest corner of 38th Street
4 and Santa Fe Avenue, the northeast corner of Leonis Boulevard and
5 Pacific Boulevard, and on the bulletin board in the lobby of the
6 I City Hall of said City, located at 4305 Santa Fe Avenue, all in
7 the City of Vernon, County of Los Angeles, State of California;
8 that this Ordinance shall be i.n full force and effect thirty (30)
9 days from and after the final passage of the same.
