ORDINANCE NO. 913
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 894 AND
PROVIDING FOR SALARY AND EXPENSE ALLOWANCE
FOR MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON
6 WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 894 was enacted January 22, 1980,
7 which provided that each member of the City Council was to receiv
8 a salary of One Hundred Eighty-Two Dollars and Thirty-Three Cents
9 ($182.33) per month; and
10 WHEREAS, ~36516 of the Government Code of the State of
11 California provides salaries for the members of the City Council;
12 and
13 WHEREAS, ~365l6.2 of the Government Code of the State
14 of California provides for increases in salaries for the members
15 of the City Council not to exceed five percent (5%) for each
16 calendar year; and
17 \~HEREAS, the City of Vernon is a City with fewer than
18 35,000 people in population, and pursuant to ~365l6, paragraph
19 (a) of the Government Code as increased by ~365l6.2 of the
20 Government Code may establish a salary by Ordinance up to and
21 including Two Hundred and One Dollars and Two Cents ($201.02)
22 per month; and
23 WHEREAS, ~365l4.5 of the Government Code of the State
24 of California provides that members of the City Council may be
25 reimbursed for actual and necessary expenses incurred in the
26 performance of official duties; and
27 WHEREAS, the actual and necessary expenses incurred by
28 Councilmen for the City of Vernon in the performance of their

official duties is at least equivalent to, if not greater than,
One Hundred Twenty-Five Dollars ($125.00) per month.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON
DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: That the City Council of the City of Vernon
does hereby determine and order that each member of the City
Council of the City of Vernon shall receive a salary of Two
Hundred and One Dollars and Two Cents ($201.02) per month for
their duties as members of the City Council.
SECTION 2: That the City Council of the City of Vernon
does hereby find and determine that the actual and necessary
expenses incurred by the City Councilmen for the City of Vernon
in the performance of their official duties is at least equal to,
if not greater than, One Hundred Twenty-Five Dollars ($125.00)
per month and orders that each member of the City Council of the
City of Vernon shall receive a monthly expense allowance of One
Hundred Twenty-Five Dollars ($125.00) per month as reimbursement
for actual and necessary expenses incurred in their duties as
luembers of the City Council.
SECTION 3: That pursuant to ~36516.5 of the Government
Code, the change in compensation provided for herein shall not
apply to a Councilman during his term in office; however, the
City Council of the City of Vernon finds that the terms of office
are staggered terms, and upon the occasion of anyone or more
members of the City Council of the City of Vernon becoming
eligible for the salary increase provided for in this Ordinance,
said compensation shall be adjusted for all members of said City
Council and the increase in salary provided for herein shall take

1 full force and effect upon said date.

SECTION 4: Ordinance No. 894 and all ordinances or
3 parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.

SECTION 5:
There being no newspaper printed, publishe
5 and circulated in the City of Vernon, the City Clerk is hereby
6 directed to certify to the passage of this Ordinance and shall
7 post the same or cause the same to be posted in three (3) of the
8 most public places in the City of Vernon, to wit: the northwest
9 corner of 38th Street and Santa Fe Avenue, the northeast corner
10 of Leonis Boulevard and Pacific Boulevard, and on the bulletin
11 board in the lobby of the City Hall of said City, located at
12 4305 Santa Fe Avenue, all in the City of Vernon, County of Los
13 Angeles, State of California; that this Ordinance shall be in
14 full force and effect thirty (30) days from and after said
15 posting.
