AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
CITY OF VERNON AMENDING THE CODE OF
CITY OF VERNON, CALIFORNIA 1959
AMENDING SECTION 25.39 RELATING

WHEREAS, the current section 25.39 of the Code of the
6 City of Vernon, California 1959, does not make mandatory the
7 provision of an adequate supply of water for drinking, washing
8 and culinary purposes for businesses and places of public
9 gathering; and
10 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon deems
11 it desirable for the public health, safety and welfare to
l2 establish such requirements.
13 THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON DOES ORDAIN AS
14 FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of Vernon does
16 hereby find and determine that the recitals contained
17 hereinabove are true and correct.

SECTION 2: The City Council of the City of Vernon
19 hereby amends Chapter 25 of the Code of the city of Vernon,
20 California 1959, by amending section 25.39 to read as follows:

"Sec. 25.39 Drinking Fountain Requirements. It

shall be unlawful for any person to conduct a
business or place of public gathering unless
there is provided on the premises an adequate
25

supply of water for drinking, washing and
CUlinary purposes. Drinking water shall be made
available within two hundred feet walking

distance of any location at which employees are

regularly engaged in work. Drinking fountains
shall be sanitary, an approved angle jet type
with surrounding guard and shall be provided
with potable water under pressure. Drinking
fountains shall be provided at the ratio of one
unit for each fifty employees or fraction
thereof or one bottled water station for each 25
employees or fraction thereof."
SECTION 3: That any ordinance or parts of ordinances
in conflict with this ordinance are hereby repealed.
SECTION 4: If any section, subsection, sentence,
clause, or phrase or word of this ordinance is for any reason
held to be void or unconstitutional, such decision shall not
affect the validity of the remaining portions of this ordinance;
it being the intention of the city Council of the city of Vernon
to adopt and pass this ordinance and each section, subsection,
sentence, clause or phrase thereof irrespective of the fact that
one or more of the sections, subsections, clauses, sentences or
phrases thereof may be declared void or unconstitutional.
SECTION 5: There being no newspaper printed, published
or circulated in the City of Vernon, the City Clerk is hereby
directed to certify to the passage of this ordinance and shall
post the same, or cause the same to be posted, within fifteen
(l5) days after its passage in accordance with section 36933 of
the Government Code, in three (3) of the most public places in
the city of Vernon, to wit: the northwest corner of 38th Street
and Santa Fe Avenue, the northeast corner of Leonis Boulevard

1 and Pacific Boulevard, and on the bulletin board in the lobby of
2 the City Hall of said City, located at 4305 Santa Fe Avenue, all
3 in the City of Vernon, County of Los Angeles, State of
4 California.

SECTION 6: That this ordinance shall be in full force
6 and effect thirty (30) days from and after its passage of the
7 same.
8 APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 4th day of June, 1991.
