RE: Cancellation of Police and Fire: Commission Meetings 6/28/10-.7/15/10
BACKGROUND:.
On May 24, 2010Ordinance No: 1168 was adopted, changing the schedule for regular City
.Council meetings from a weekly schedule (first Monday of each month) to a bi<monthly
schedule (first and third Monday of each month):
Because Ordinance No: 1168 takes effect on June 24, 20105 there will not be. a regular City
Council meeting on Monday, June 28, 2010. Further, because the first Monday in July (July 5t)
is .a recognized holiday, there will not be a City Council meeting that :day, .nor .the .followiig
.Monday, July 12th. . Thus, the first regular. City .Council meeting under the new bi-monthly
schedule will occur July 19, 2010, while the last regular City Council meeting under the weekly
schedule will take place: on June 21, 201:0. As a result, there will be no regularlyscheduled:City
Council .meetings during the period between June.21 and July 19, 2010.
Per Resolution No. 9967, adopted June 1, 2009, the regular meetings .of the Police and Fire
Commission occur on:a weekly .basis (first Monday .of each month), which is in line with the.
`previous City Council meeting schedule.
However, at the City Council meeting of June 7, .201.0, Ordinance No. 11693 abolishing the
Police and Fire. Commission, was approved for a first reading. If said ordinance is adopted at the
June 14' Council meeting, the Police and Fire Commission will cease to exist as of July 15,
2010:
RECOMMENDATION:
In order to. keep the Police and Fire Commission meetings. on the same schedule as the City
Council meetings until. Ordinance .No..:1169 takes effect,: it is recommended that all meetings of
the Police and :Fire Commission during the.period beginning June:28 through July 15; 2010, be
cancelled:
