3 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, DECLARING
THE RESULTS OF A REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD ON THE 9th DAY OF
4 APRIL, 1940.

6 WHEREAS, a general municipal election was held in the
7 City of Vernon, State of California, on Tuesday, the 9th day of
8 April, 1940, for the purpose of electing tw'o'(2) members of "the City
9 Council of said City, a City Clerk of said City and a City Treasu~er
10 of said City; and
11 WHEREAS, it appears that said election was held and
12 conducted in accordance with the General Election Laws of the State
13 of California as far as same were applicable, and that the City
14 Council gave such notices of election as prescribed by law, and
15 appointed a board of election, fixed their compensation and es-
16 tablished an election precinct and polling place, and that said
17 election was held and conducted and the votes cast thereat were
18 received and canvassed and the return thereon was made in the time,
19 form and manner as required by law; and
20 WHEREAS, the City Council did meet on this, the 15th day
21 of April, 1940, being the Monday next succeeding the date of said
22 general municipal election, said date not being the date of a regu-
23 lar meeting of the City Council, and at said meeting the said Board
24 canvassed the vote cast at said general municipal election; where-
25
upon it was,tound that the votes cast at said election in said City
were One Hundred and Five (165); the number of spoiled ballots were
three (3). The votes were as follows:
For Councilmen:
James J. Furlong. . . . . . .102 votes
Richard Levy. . . . . . . . . 89 votes
For City Clerk:

and
WHEREAS, it appears from the canvass of votes cast at
said general municipal election that the persons next herein named
received a majority of all the votes cast thereat for the respect-
ive offices mentioned;
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, determined and
declared by the City Council of the City of Vernon that at a
general municipal election held in said City on th~ 9th day of April,
1940, the persons elected to the respective offices for the terms
stated and until their successors are duly elected and qualified
are as follows:
James J. Furlong, as Councilman of the City of
Vernon for the full term of four years;
Richard Levy, as Councilman of the City of Vernon
for the full term of four years;
Thomas J. Furlong, as City Clerk of the City of
Vernon for the full term of four years; and
Franklin G. French, as City Treasurer of the City
of Vernon for the full term of four years.
The newly elected officers, before entering upon the
duties of the office as Councilmen, City Clerk and City Treasurer
of said City, shall take and subscribed to the constitutional oath
of office, and file same with the Clerk.
The City Clerk is hereby directed to certify to the
passage of this resolution, and thereupon the same shall be in
full force and effect.

I, T. J. FURLONG, City Clerk of the City of Vernon do
hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly adopted
