RESOLUTION NO. 1394
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON FIXING
THE COMPENSATION FOR CERTAIN EMPLOYEES OF SAID CITY AS OF JULY
1, 1948 UNTIL FURTHER ORDER OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF SAID CITY,
AND REPEALING ALL OTHER RESOLUTIONS IN CONFLICT WITH THIS
RESOLUTION.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1.
Effective July 1., 1948 the following
employees of the City Department of the City of Vernon shall
receive the compensation or salary hereinafter set forth.
This resolution shall not effect the existing compensation of
any officer or employee not in this Resolution specifically
set forth:
FIRE DEPARTMENT

City shall receive a salary of $274.80 per month for the first

year they are employed by the c;i ty of vernon. All employees
in said Fire Department shall be employed temporarily for the
first six (6) months of their employment before receiving a per-
manent appointment. After said employee has been a permanent
employee of the City of Vernon for a period of six {6} months,
his salary thereafter shall be $280.80 per month, and after said
employee has become a permanent fireman for a period of eighteen
(18) months, his salary thereafter shall be $292.80 per month
until further order of the City Council.
Section 2.
POLICE DEPARTMENT
The Police Department of the City of Vernon shall
consist of 20 police officers as follows: 1 Police Chief.,
1 Deputy Police Chief., 3 Sergeants of Police and 15 Policemen.
Said Policemen shall be either Motorcycle Police Officers or
Automobile Police Officers ~nd the salaries of the Police Depart-
ment are hereby fixed as follows:
1 Police Chief - E. Giles ---------- $507.18 per month
1 Deputy Chief - T. J. Furlong _._-_.- 240.00 per month
3 Sergeants - H. F. Looney l
H. Showalter ----- 322.76 per month

15 Motorcycle or auotmobile officers shall each receive a
salary of $280.83 per month for the first 6 months they are
employed by the City of Vernon; after the first six. (6) months
they shall receive a salary of $28~~I9 per month for a period of
one year; after said perio~ of one year they shall receive a
salary of $292.79 per month for a period of one year; there-
after they shall receive a salary of $298.79 per month until
further order of the City Council. In addition to said salaries

each officer or policeman shall receive when they use their
own automobile or motorcycle in the service of the city, an
additional sum of $40.00 per ponth plus $15.00 to defray the
expense of gasoline and oil. The City shall not be responsi-
ble for repairs or any additional cost for upkeep, fuel,
lubrication or other expense to any motorcycle or other motor
vehicle beyond the amount herein set forth.
The Street Painter employed by the Police Department
shall receive a salary of $9.00 per day.
Section 3. The salary and personnel of the Employees
of the Engineering, Street and Water Departments are hereby
fixed as follows:

Section 6. Each employee of the City shall be entitled
to two (2) weeks vacation during the second year of said

service and each year thereafter, at full pay, but wherever
an allowance is made in addition to the salary herein set
forth, said allowance will not be allowed during the vacation
period.
Section 7.
All Resolutions in conflict with this
Resolution are hereby repealed.
Section 8. The City Clerk of the City of Vernon
shall certify to the passage of this resolution and thereupon
and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
