A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
VERNON AUTHORIZING frHE CITY ENGINBBR TO NEGOTIATE
FOR 'rHE IMMEDIATE REPAIR OF 'rHE PUMP ON 'WELL
NO.8, PUMPING PLANT NO.3, OF THE CITY OF VERNON
AlID AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF VERNON TOEl~~~ INTO
A CON1fBACT :B'OR THE REPAIR OF SAID PUMP, AND
DECLARING SAID WORK TO BE AN E:NIEHGENCY.
WHEREAS, the City of Vernon owns and operates a municipal
water system in the City of Vernon for the purpose of supplying
water for the use of the inhabitants of said Cit~ for fire
protection and for National and Local Defense, which system con-
sists of wells, pumps, reservoirs and other works within said
City, and
WnEREAS, the supply of water from the wells located within
the City of Vernon is the only supply available to said City,
and,
VmEREAS, the maintenance of an adequate water supply is
necessary for the public peace, health and safety of the inhabi-
tants of said City, and
WHEREAS, the water pump on well No.8, pumping plant
No.3, of the City of Vernon is in disrepair to the extent that
it will not operate and is in need of immediate repair, and,
WHEREAS, the water supply from the other wells of the
City of Vernon does not furnish an adequate supply for proper
fire protection and preparation for National and Local Defense,
and,
WHEREA.S, the present reserve supply of the reservoirs

of the City is not sufficient without the use of the p~~p on
said well number 8, and,
VVHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon has
determined that public interest and necessity demand the immed-
iate expenditure of public money to safeguard life, health and
property of the inhabitants of the City of Vernon, and that
unless said repairs are effected immediately a public calamity
may result,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
1. That the City Engineer of the City of Vernon is
hereby authorized to enter into arrangements for the immediate
repair of the pump located on well No.8, pumping plant No.3,
of the City of Vernon, at a cost not to exceed $3,000.00.
2. That the City of Vernon is hereby authorized to enter
into a contract on the best terms available not to exceed
$3,000.00, and in the best interests of the City, with any
responsible person, firm or corporation for the repair of said
pump, and the Mayor of the City of Vernon is hereby authorized
to sign such contract entered into for the repair of said pump.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a Special Meeting of the City

Written consent for the holding of a Special l<feeting
of the City Council of the City of Vernon, California, on
July 21+th, 1951, at 2 o'clock P.l-l. for the purpose of letting
of a contract for water pump in well No.8, made necessary by
emergency in the Water supply of the City of Vernon, California,
does hereby consent to the holding of a Special Meeting of the
City Council in the Council Chamber at the City Hall, 1+305
Santa Fe Avenue, Vernon, California, for the purposes set forth.
