RESOLUTION NO. 1649
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON SETTING
3 ASIDE CERTAIN PARCELS OF LAND FOR STREET PURPOSES.
4 THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
5 Whereas, it is for the best interests of the City of
6 Vernon that Downey Road in said City be widened and improved; and
7 Whereas, the County of Los Angeles has a condemnation
8 proceeding No. 582,568 pending in the Superior Court of the State
9 of California, in and for the County of Los Angeles, for the
10 purpose of acquiring for street purposes as a part of Downey Road
11 a portion of Lot 8 of the 500 acre tract of the Los Angeles
12 Fruit Land Association, as shown on map recorded in Book 3, Pages
13 156-157 of Miscellaneous Records, in the office of the County
14 Recorder of the County of Los Angeles; and
15 Whereas, the portions of said Lot 8 hereinafter described
16 lie wi thin the proposed boundary line of Downey Road wi thin the
17 City of Vernon and are necessary for the uniform development and
18 improvement of said Downey Road in said City;
19 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:

Section 1: That the land within the City of Vernon
lying within the proposed boundary lines of Downey Road described

PARCEL 4-5:
That portion of Lot 8 of the 500 acre track of the Los Angeles
Fruit Land Association, as shown on map recorded in Book 3, Pages
156 and 157 of Miscellaneous Records, in the office of the Recorder
of the County of Los Angeles within the following described
I boundaries:
I Beginning at the intersection of the westerly line of the
easterly 40 feet of said lot with the curved southwesterly line of
the 17-foot strip of land described in deed to San Pedro, Los Angeles
and Salt Lake Railroad Company, recorded in Book 5909, page 265 of
Deeds, in the office of said recorder; thence southeasterly along
said southwesterly line 14.63 feet to the curved northwesterly line
of that certain real property conveyed to John B. Leonis by deed
recorded as document No. 2568 on December 30, 1947, in Book 26031,
page 111 of Official Records, in the office of said recorder; thence
southwesterly along said northwesterly line 11.86 feet to said
westerly line; thence northerly along said westerly line 20.38
feet to the point of beginning.

156 and 157 of Miscellaneous Records, in the office of the Recorder
of the County of Los Angeles, within the following described
boundaries:
Beginning at the intersection of the westerly line of the east-
erly 40 feet of said lot with the curved southeasterly line of that
certain real property conveyed to John B. Leonis by deed recorded
as document No. 2568 on December 30, 1947, in Book 26031, page III
of Official Records, in the office of said recorder; thence north-
easterly along said southeasterly line 26.57 feet to the curved
southwesterly line of the l7-foot strip of land described in deed
to San Pedro, Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad Company, recorded
in Book 5909, page 265 of Deeds, in the office of said recorder;
thence southeasterly along said southwesterly line 0.97 feet to
the westerly line of the easterly 20 feet of said lot; thence south-

road purposes as a portion of Downey Road in the City of Vernon.
Section 2:
The City Clerk of the City of Vernon is
16 hereby directed to certify to the passage of this resolution and
17 thereupon and thereafter the same shall be in full force and
18 effect.

Gen tlemen :
Herewith is letter, dated January 26, 1953 addressed to
the City Clerk of the Ci t:r of Vernon from the County of Los Angeles,
relative to the acquiring of land by the County for the widening
and improvement of Downey Road from 26th Street to Leonis Boulevard.
The County has filed a condemnation case in the Sunerior
Court, Case No. 582568, to acquire, in the name of the County,
the land necessary for the widening. Two small parcels of land
owned by the City of Vernon lie within the proposed right of way
of Downey Road and are included in the condemnation action. The
parcels are located on the west side of' Dovmey Road approximately
523 feet and 595 feet, respectively, south of Vernon Avenue. Legal
descriptions oj"' the parcels are attached to the aforesaid letter.
The County proposes to dismiss said parcels from the action upon
receipt of a resolution of the City Council setting aside the
parcels for road purposes, to be known as Dovmey Road.
It is recommended that a resolution be adopted and for-
warded to the County as requested.

It is necessary that the portion described be set
aside for road purposes and improvement of Downey Road,
and we propose to dismiss these parcels from the action
