A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON RECOI~NDING
3 THAT THE CENTRAL BASIN MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT BE ANNEXED TO THE
METROPOLITAN WATER DISTRICT OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA.

THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
W}mREAS, within corporate limits of the City of Vernon

there are situated many plants, industries and manufacturing
'9
establishments where large numbers of residents of neighboring
communities are employed, and
WHEREAS, the continued operation of such plants, indus-
tries and manufacturing establishments is wholly dependent upon
an adequate and continuous supply of water being available, and
WHEREAS, the only source of water supply available to
the City of Vernon, its residents, industries, plants and manu-
facturing establishments is that obtained from wells producing
the ground-waters from the Central Basin, and
WHEREAS, it is generally known that the supply of ground-
water in the Central Basin is failing, that water levels have for
years been constantly lowering, and that natural replenishment to
the Basin is far less than production of water from the Basin, and
WHEREAS, the Central Basin Municipal Water District is
now organized for the purpose of obtaining for its domestic and
industrial water users, including those of the City of Vernon, a
supplemental water supply sufficient in volume to augment the
failing supply obtained from wells, and
WHEREAS, water from Colorado River is available to the
Central Basin Municipal Water District in volume sufficient to
meet the supplemental needs of the area through annexation 0$
the District to The Metropolitan Water District of Southern
California.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
Section 1:
That the City Council of the City of
Vernon requests, and it does hereby request the Board of Directors

1 of the Central Basin Municipal Water District to take necessary
2 steps and to initiate proper proceedings for bringing about the
3 immediate annexation of the District to The Metropolitan Water
4 District of Southern California;

Section 2: That a certified copy of this Resolution
6 be forwarded to the Board of Directors of Central Basin Municipal
7 Water District.

Section 3: The City Clerk of the City of Vernon is
9 hereby directed to certify to the passage of this resolution and
10 thereupon and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
11 Adopted and Approved this 3rd day of March, 1953.
