THE COMPENSATION FOR CERTAIN EMPLOYEES OF SAID CITY AS OF JULY 1,

All employees of said Fire Department shall be employed
temporarily for the first six (6) months of their employment be-
fore receiving a permanent appointment; Olass 4 Hosemen, upon
completion of six months' service, shall thereafter, upon recom-
mensation or the Fire Chief, be promoted to Hosemen, Class 3.

of the Fire Department, when duly authorized by the City Council

of the City of Vernon after written application on behalf of such
employee, shall receive, when he uses his own automobile in the
service of the City, an additional sum of $75.00 per month, being
an allowance for the use and maintenance of said automobile.

The City shall not be responsible for repairs or any additional

automobile beyond the amount hereinabove set forth.

shall receive, when he uses his own automobile or motorcycle in
the service of the City, an additional sum of $75 per month,
being an allowance for the use and maintenance of said motor equip-
ment. The City shall not be responsible for repairs or any

1 Construction Inspector, Junior Construction Inspector and Sani-
2 tation Engineer shall receive, when using their own motor vehicles
3 in the service of the City, an additional sum of $50 per month,
4 and the Engineer's Aide shall receive, when using his own motor
5 vehicle in the service of the Oity, an additional sum of $30 per
6 month. The City shall not be responsible for repairs or any
7 additional costs for upkeep, fuel, lubrication or other expenses
8 to any such motor vehicle beyond the amount herein set forth.

Section 4:
The salaries herein set forth for the
8 several officers and employees of the City of Vernon in the dif-
9 ferent departments shall be in full force and erfect from and
10 after the 1st day of July, 1953.

Section 5:
Each employee of the City shall be entitled
12 to two (2) weeks' vacation during the second year of said service
13 and each year thereafter, at full pay, but, whenever an allowance
14 is made in addition to the salary herein set forth, said allowance
15 will not be allowed during the vacation period. Nothing herein

contained shall be deemed to conflict with or impair the force
and effect of Resolution No. 1583 of the City of Vernon providing
for three(3) weeks' per year paid vacation for employees of the
City whose duties require them to work in the service of the City
on legal holidays.
Section 6: In any salary period in which any full-time
employee of the City of Vernon shall, for any reason, not work
full time, then the pay, salary or compensation of such employee
shall be reduced on the following basis:
(a) Where an employee is paid on a monthly salary
basis, such employee shall be paid the amount produced by multi-
plying the regular monthly salary by a fraction having as its
denominator the total number of days in the calendar month, and
as its numerator the figure which shall be the result of sub-
tracting the actual working days lost from the total number of
days in the calendar month. Provided, that, when such employee
is hired or his employment is terminated after the beginning or

1 before the end of a salary period, no salary shall be payable
2 on account of any days preceding such hiring, or for any days
3 following such termination.
4
(b) Where an employee is paid on a daily basis, no
5 compensation shall be payable for any day or portion of a day
6 not worked.
7
(c) In either of the eases mentioned in subsection
8 (a) or (b) above, fractional parts of a day shall be computed
9 on the basis of an eight-hour day, excepting members of the
10 Fire Department who serve on 24-hour shifts, and as to said
11 latter employees fractional parts of a day shall be computed on
12 the basis of a 24-hour day.

(d) "Absence" as used in this section shall include,
14
without being limited to, leaves of absence, suspensions and
15
employees whose employment commences or terminates during a pay,
16
17
salary or wage period.
(e) As an exception to the general rules for deduction
or loss of pay for absence as above defined, any department head
may, for good cause as determined in the discretion of such de-
18
19
20
partment head, certify for full pay an employee who has been
21
absent during a pay, salary or wage period.
Section 7: All resolutions in conflict with this reso-
lution are hereby repealed.
Section 8: The City Clerk of the City of Vernon shall
certify to the passage of this resolution and thereupon and
thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
