A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON DIRECTING
THE GIVING OF NOTICE INVITING BIDS FOR THE FURNISHING, PAINTING,
AND DELIVERY COMPLETE IN PLACE, INCLUDING GRADING AND FOUNDATIONS,
OF FIVE (5) WELDED STEEL WATER STORAGE RESERVOIRS OF APPROXIMATELY
ONE MILLION GALLONS CAPACITY EACH IN ACCORDANCE WITH SPECIFICATIONS
NO. 171 OF SAID CITY.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1:
The City Clerk or the City of Yernon is

hereby directed to give notice inviting sealed proposals or bids
ror the rurnishing, painting, and delivery complete in place,
including grading and foundations, of five (5) welded steel water
storage reservoirs of approximately one million gallons capacity
each in accordance with Specifications No. 171 of said City;
Section 2:
There being no newspaper or general circula-
tion printed, published and circulated in the City or Yemon, the
City Clerk is hereby directed to post said notice, or cause the
same to be posted, in three of the most public places in said City,
to wit: The northwest corner of 38th Street and Santa Fe Avenue;
the northeast corner of Leonis Boulevard and Pacific Boulevard;
and on the bulletin board in the lobby of the City ,Hall or the
City or Vernon, located at 4305 Santa Fe Avenue in said City;
Section 3: The rirstposting or said notice shall be
'not less than ten (10) days before the date of opening bids for
the proposed equipment and work to be done.
The Notice shall distinctly state the equipment to be
purchased and work, to be performed.
Section 4:
The City Clerk of the City or Vernonsball
certiry to the passage or this Resolution and thereupon and there-
after the same shall be in full force and effect.

Pursuant to an order of the Oity Council of the City of

5 Vernon given on the 27th day o~ October, 1953, directing same, notice
6 is hereby given that sealed proposals or bids will be received by
7 the City of Vernon, Oalifornia, at the Of~ice of the City Olerk of
8 said City, at the City Hall, 4305 Santa Fe Avenue, until the hour
9 of two (2) o'clock P.M. on the 17th day of November, 1953, for the
10 furnishing, erecting, painting, and delivery complete in place, in-
11 cluding grading and foundations, o~ ~ive (5) welded steel water
12 storage reservoirs o~ approximately one million (1,000,000) U. S.
13 gallon capacity each, with low-pitch conical roo~ having steel girders,
14 rafters, and column supports, accessories and appurtenances, at the
15 ~ollowing locations:

Two (2) reservoirs at Pumping Plant No.2, southerly o~
17 Vernon Avenue and westerly of Downey Road; and three (3) reservoirs
18 at Pumping Plant No.3, northerly o~ Fruitland Avenue and westerly of
19 Downey Road, within the City of Vernon.

The furnishing, erecting, painting, and delivery complete
21 in place, including grading and foundations, o~ the five (5) reser-

vOirs, accessories, and appurtenances shall be in accordance with

Speci~ications No. 171 and Plans Nos. B5-1249, B5-1250, B5-1251,
24 B5-1252, B5-1253, B5-1254, B5-1255, and B5-l258, hereto~ore approved

by the City Council o~ said City o~ Vernon; and Plans to be furnished

Apprentices: May be employed in conformity with Section 1777-5 of
10 the Calirornia Labor Code.
11 Foreman: Shall be paid not less than 17~ cents per hour more than
the hourly rate of the highest classirication over which he has
12 supervision.
13 For any crart not included in the above list, the minimum
14 per diem wages shall be the general prevailing wages for the locality,
15 and shall be not less than $16.40 per day.
16 The foregoing schedule or per diem wages is basad upon a
17 working day of eight (8) hours. The hourly wage rate shall be the

per diem rate divided by the arorementioned number of hours consti-
tuting a working day.
Notice is also hereby given that, pursuant to said Labor
Code of California, it shall be mandatory upon the Contractor to

whom the contract is awarded, and upon any sub-contractor under him,

to pay to all laborers, workmen or mechanics employed by them in the
execution of the contract not less than the said specified rates,

which rates shall be included in the contract to the successful
bidder.

Notice is further hereby given that all bidders may submit
with their bids a sworn statement of their rinancial responSibility,
technical ability and experience. Such sworn statement may be re-
quired to be furnished before award is made to any particular bidder.
To be entitled to consideration, each bid submitted pur-
suant to this notice shall be made out on a rorm to be obtained at

the Orfice of the City Engineer; shall be accompanied by a certiried
check, drart or bid bond, payable at a bank authorized to do business
in the State of California, made payable at sight to the City Clerk
of the said City of Vernon, in amount equal to ten per cent (10%)
of the bid submitted, shall be delivered to. the City Clerk of the
City of Vernon in a sealed envelope at, or before, the time stated
herein, and must be plainly marked, "Proposal for the Furnishing,
Erecting, Painting and Delivery Complete in Place, Including Grading
and Foundations of five (5) Welded Steel Water Storage Reservgirs
ror the City of Vernon.tt All bids will be opened and publicly read
aloud at or about two (2) o'clock P.M. or the 17th day of November,
1953, in the City Council Chamber.

The above mentioned check or bond shall be given as a
guarantee that the bidder will enter into a contract if awarded to
him and will be declared forfeited if the successrul bidder refuses

or neglectsm enter into a contract of the'required form after being
requested to do so by the City Clerk of the City of Vernon, Califor-
nia. The successful bidder will be required to furnish a labor and
material bond in an amount equal to fif,ty (50%) per cent of the
Contract price, and a faithful performance bond in an amount equal
to one hundred per cent (100%) of the contract price.

Unless otherwise required by law, no bidder may withdraw
his bid for a period of thirty (30) days after the date set for the
opening thereof.
A deposit of Ten Dollars ($10.00) will be required to

secure the Plans and Specifications, as a guarantee that the Plans
and Specifications will be returned, which deposit will be refunded
in case same are returned to the City in good condition not later
than forty-eight (48) hours after the bids on the work will have
been opened.
