THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE Crry OF VERNON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

WHEREAS, the area served by the City of Vernon is
wholly dependent for water upon the dwindling supply obtained
.from the Central Basin through wells; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City of Vernon that a
continuing and abundant supply of water be provided for resid9nts
and industry of this area; and
WHEREAS, the Central Basin Municipal Water District is
unable at this time, because of legal difficulties, to complete
annexation to The Metropolitan Water District o.f Southern Cali-

fornia in order to obtain for this area, including the municipali-
ties, communities and industries situated therein, an abundant
and continuous supplemental supply of water;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
Section 1:
That the City of Vernon urge, and it does
hereby urge, the Board of Supervisors of Los Angeles County to
levy a .five-cent (51) tax rate for the ensuing .fiscal year,
within Zone One of the Los Angeles County Flood Control District,
to provide funds for purchase of imported water to be spread
within the Central Basin area by that District to supplement the
failing natural supply upon which the Central Basin area now
depends;
Section 2:
The City Clerk of the City of Vernon is
hereby instructed to .furnish a certified copy of this Resolution
to the Board of Supervisors of Los Angeles County.
Section 3:
The City Clerk of the City of Vernon shall
