Re: Changes of classifications for Engineering Department
personnel
To the Honorable City Council:
Pursuant to the City Engineer's desire to allocate responsi-
bility and thereby improve the functions of his department,
it is hereby requested that Resolution1761 of the City Coun-
cil of the City of Vernon be amended as follows:
(1)
By adding at page 3 thereof under the heading "Engineer-
ing Department Salary Scale" 'the new job classification
of "Office Engineer" at a salary of $550 per montl1.

By adding at page 5 under the heading "Street Department
Salary Scale" the new job classification of "Assistant
Foreman (Working)" at the rate of $19 per day.

The City Engineer contemplates that, as tofue position of Of-
fice Engineer created by the first proposed amendment, re-
sponsibilities for routine inside operations of the depart-
ment, including supervision of the clerical employees
(exclusive of those engaged in drafting and engineering work),
handling public inquiries at the counter in the Engineering
office and on the telephone, purchasing, inventorying and
similar duties will rest with this classification.
With respect to the second amendment, the City Engineer wishes
to provide a substitute for the Street Department Foreman
during his necessary absences as under the present arrangement
there is no proper allocation of responsibility under those
circumst..ances.
It is my understanding that, if the Council sees fit to adopt
the requested amendments, the City Engineer will place before
