SYCAMORE 3"7128 December 19, 1955 INVESTIGATIONS AND REPORTS PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS SUPERVISiON OF CONSTRUCTION SUPERVISION OF OPERATION MANAGEMENT VALUATIONS Gentlemen: DEe 2.0 \955' ~ ,;.h., leg ~ ~/ The Honorable City Council City of Vernon 4305 Santa Fe Avenue Vernon 58, California Reference is made to my letter dated December 19, 1955, in which I have discussed the claim. of the Alex R..obertsonCompany f()r additional work completed in the amount of $1,245.8.8 and the Contractor's estimate in the amount of $4. 780.00 for further additional work to be done at Pumping Plants Nos. 2 and 3. The additional work is required because of a mistake in the design of .the harness set and thrust block at each pumping plant. This mis take occurred in the prepara.tion of the plans and specifications. The discharge piping for each pumping plant originally was designed for a test pressure of 115 pounds per square in.ch and accordingly this test pressure was specified. Before the plans and specifications wereapp,roy-ed, our office was advised of the City's requirement for a test pre$sure of 300 pounds per square inch. The City's test pressure requirement was incor- porated into the speeifications hut the design of the discharge piping har- ness and thrust block was not changed accordingly. I accept theresponsihility for the mistakem.a.de and if ,required will assume the :financial responsibility for that portion of the additional work which is directly attributable to the mistake-made in the origin.a.1 design. It is not possible. to evaluate the cost of the work at the present time. As soon as practical after the work has been completed, I will submit to you my estimate of the cost attributable to the mistake in design. I would be very happy to discuss this matter further at your convenience. Very truly yours, JMM:mg C.c. A. W. Phillips ~. ..... - 7 ornery James M.
