March 21, 1956,
Honorable City Council
City of Vernon,
California
Your Honorable Body:
It is requested that a resolution be drawn up which would
give the Police Department authority to post the intersection of
Santa Fe and Pacific Blvd. with a "NO LEFT TURNn sign for south
bound traffic on Santa Fe to facilitate the movement of traffic
during peak hours.
In the past, we have stationed a police officer there whose
prime purpose was to keep south bound traffic moving as freely as
possible in an attempt to keep the Fire Department's driveway clear
for any emergency call. In order to do this, it sometimes becomes
necessary to hold up north bound traffic on Santa Fe, east bound
traffic on Vernon, and west bound traffic on Pacific Blvd. Vernon
and Pacific Blvd. are becoming more heavily travelled streets, and
consequently the hold up of traffic on these streets, so as to allow
south bound traffic on Santa Fe to move more freely, is becoming
more and more difficult and resulting in complaints of citizens and
the operators of the L.A. Transit Line street cars.
It is felt that by placing a UNO LEFT TURNtt sign for south
bound traffic on Santa Fe at Pacific Blvd., it will cause said
traffic to flow more freely, and motorists will have access to
Pacific Blvd. from Santa Fe on 49th st., Fruitland Ave., 52nd st.,
and Slauson Avenue.
Your consideration in this matter will be zreatly appreciated.
