A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON
3 DECLARING A PROPOSED PLAN FOR IMPROVING TRAFFIC CON-
DITIoNs IN THE CITY OF VERNON.

THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS, the Engineering Department of the City of Vernon
has made a study of immediate traffic needs within the said City and has
prescribed certain improvements and the estimated cost thereof; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon ha.s
considered the proposed projects and the probable cost of each; and
WHEREAS, the Los Angeles County Citizens Committee for
Better Roads has requested that the City of Vernon advise it of the City's
contemplated future program for traffic betterment, and advise the
estimated cost thereof.
NOW, THEREFORE.. BE IT RESOLVED:
SECTION 1:
That the City Council of the City of Vernon
17 finds the projects as set forth in Schedules IIA II and lIB" attached hereto
18 to be of vital importance for improving traffic conditions in the City of
19 Vernon and the estimated cost thereof to the City of Vernon.

SECTION 2:
The City Clerk of the City of Vernon shall
21 certify to the passage of this Resolution and thereupon and thereafter the
22 same shaH be in full force and effect.
23 ADOPTED and APPROVED this 14th day of August, 1956.

Attached hereto is copy of letter dated August 7, 1956
addressed to this Department fro1l1 Los Angeles Count,. Citizens
Committee for Better Roads, relative to a proposed county-wide
hi~way bond issue to be placed on the November ballot, &.1I1Ounting
to $150,000,000.00. It will be noted request is 1I1ade that the
City of Vernon formally adopt a program for the utilization of
.2,543,OOO.OO~ which is the anticipated amount that will be avail-
able for the Liity of Vernon from the bond issue.
There are also enclosed herewith statements of the pro-
posed work to be done with the funds, if ani when available. The
information is set forth in conformity with the CODlllitteet s letter
above referred to. Because of the time element, it has not been
possible to prepare definite estimates for this work. The figures
are based on the best information available at this time. All of
this proposed work is or willbe covered by agreements with Moffatt
and .ichol, Inc., Consulting .b;ngineers,~ for preliminary estimates
and reports to be made to the City of vernon by them as soon as
that can be done.
In assembling the information as enclosed herewith, I
have been guided as to form by the letter of the Committee and by
personal conversation over tille telephone with Mr. LynCh, an
engineer in the office of Mr. Kennedy, Road Commissioner, Los
Angeles County. Mr. Lynch is assembling this information for the
entire county and preparing it for submission to the Board of
Supervisors of Los Angeles County.
