CONSTRUCTION OF CEMENT CONCRETE PAVEMENT AND
APPURTENANCES IN SAN'rA FlQ A VENtIE#. AT CER.TAIN
INTERSlQCTIONSFROM27TH STREET TO 57THSTREET# IN
ACCORDANCE WITH SPECIFICATIONS NO. 199 OF THE CITY
OF VERNON.
Pursuant to .Resolution No. 1983 of the City of Vernon"
adopt.ed on the 16th day of October" 1956" directing same" notice. is
hereby given that sealed propogals or bids win be received by the City
of'Vernon" California" at the office of the City Clerk of said City" at the
City Hall" 4305 Santa Fe Avenue" until the hour of two (2) o"clock P. M. "
on the 20th day of November. 1956, for the construction in the City of
Vernon of' cement concrete pavement" and appurtenances.,. in Santa Fe Avenue"
in accordance with Specifications No. 199 approved by said City.
The.
proposals will be publicly opened and read in the Council Chambers of the
City Hall Ioc.ated at 4305 Santa Fe Avenue, Vemon" Cali.fornia" on the date
and at the time above"'mentioned. Specifications and contract documents
may be obtained at the above...mentioned office of the City Clerk upon payment
of a deposit of ten dollars ($10.00) for each specification.
The construction to be done and materials to be furnished
under said specifications No. 199 is as fonows:
Removal and disposal of asphalt concrete pavement 8U6 sq. ft.
Removal and disposal of cement concrete gutter 1684 sq. ft.
Remov-al and disposal of cement concrete curb 394 Lill. ft.
Re.moval and disposal of cement concrete side-
walk and/ or driveway apron 1769 sq. ft.
Cement concrete curb, standard" eighteen (18)

Cement concrete curb" twenty four (24) inches

said City.
Bidders are hereby notified that.. pursuant to the prQvisiQns of
SectiQns 1770...1781,. inclusive.. LabQr Code of CalifQrnia4 the City CQuncil
of the City Qf Vernon has: ascertained the gene.ral prevailing rate of per
diem wages and rates fQr legal holidays and Qver-time work in the locality
in which this wQrk is to. beperfQrmed. fQr each craft or type of workman 0.1'
mechanic needed to. execute the CQntract which. will be awarded to the
succe.ssful bidder, and that the ReS:QlutiQn establishing these prevailing
rates is on file with the City Clerk Qf the City Qf Vernon. Theprevailing

rate not less than $2.10 per hour.
Overtime - not less than one and one-half (1-1/2) times thelabove
rates.
Sundays and holidays - not less than one and one-half (1-1/2) times
the abOve rates.
The foregoing schedule of per diem wages is based upon a working
day of eight (8) hours. The hourly wage rate shall be the per diem rate
divided by the aforementioned number of hours constituting a working day.
Notice is also he.reby given that. pursuant to said Labor Code of
Californial it shall be mandatory upon the Contractor to whom the contract
is awarded, and upon any subcontractor under him. to pay to alllaborers~
workmen or mechanics employed by them in the execution of the contract
not less than the said specified rates, which rates shall be included in the
contract to the successful bidder.
Notice is further hereby given that all bidders may submit with their
bids a sworn statement of their financial responsibility.lenhnical ability and
experience. Such sworn statement may be required to be furnished before
award is made to any particular bidder.
To be entitled to consideration, each bid submitted pursuant to this
notice shall be made out on a form to be obtained at the Office of the City
Engineer; shall be accompanied by a certified check. draft or bid bond, pay~
abie at a bank authorized to do business in the State of California.. made
payable at sight to the City Clerk of the City of Vernon. in amount equal to
ten per cent (100/e) of the bid submitted.. shall be delivered to the City Clerk

1 of the City of Vernon in a sealed envelope at4 or before.. the time stated
2 hereins and must be plainly marked tJproposal for Cement Concrete Pavement
3 in Santa Fe Avenue at Certain Intersections from 27th Street to 57th street".
4 The above mentioned check or bond shall be given as a guarantee
5 that the bidder will enter into a contract if awarded to him and will be
6 declared forfeited if the successful bidder r.efuses or neglects to enter into
7 a contract of the required form after being requested to do so by the City
8 Clerk of the City of Vernon~ California. The successful bidder will be
9 required to furnish a labor and material bond in an amount equal to fifty
10 per cent (50%) of the contract price~ and a faithful performance bond in an
11 amount equal to one hundred per cent (100%) of the contract price.
12 Unless otherwise required by law~ no bidder may withdraw his bid
13 for a period of thirty (30) days after the date set for the opening thereof.
14 A deposit of ten dollars ($10.00) will be required to secure the
15 Plans and Specifications~ as a guarantee that the Plans: and Specific.ations
16 will be returned~ which deposit will be refunded in case same are returned
17 to the City in good condition not later than forty-eight (48) hours after the
18 bids on the work will have been opened.
19 The City of Vernon reserves the right to reject any and all bids or
20 waive any informality in the bid.
