RESOLUTION NO.
2072
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON
3 REQUESTING THE LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA CITIES TO ADVOCATE.
THAT AN EXEMPTION BE GRANTED TO CITIES FROM THE PAYMENT
4 OF STATE SALES AND GAS TAXES.

THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

7 WHEREASsthe muni.cipalities of the State of Californias including
8 the City>of Yernon.. pay the State Sales Tax and the State Gas Tax; and
9 WHEREASs taxation of a lower echelon of government by a
10 higher echelon creates a da.ngerous precedent and may induce the federal
11 government to terminate its tax exemption practices to cities and states;
12 and
13 WHEREAS, such payment by the cities of Californi.a results in a
14 syphoning by the State of much needed municipaLrevenues to the detriment
15 of all such cities.

16 NOW, THEREFORE. BE IT RESOLVED:
J3ECTION 1:
That the League of California cities. expend
18 every effort to obtai.n from the State Legislature an exemption of cities
19 from the paymentoLState Sales Taxes and State Gas Taxes.

SECTION 2:
The City Clerk of the City of Vernon shall
21 certify to the passage of this resolution and thereupon and thereafter the
22 sameshaU he in full force and effect.
23 ADOPTED and APPROVED this 6th day of August.. 1957.
