A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON
ACCEPTING AN EASEMENT DEED FROM LOS ANGELES &. .SALT .LAKE
RAILROAD COMPANY (FORMERLY SANPEDRO~ LOS ANGELES&:.
SALT LAKE RAILROAD COM.PANY) AND ITS LESSEE. UNION PACIFIC
RAILROAD COMPANY.. TO A PORTION OF AN 80-FOOT RIGHT-OF-WAY
AT LEONIS BOULEVARD IN THE CITY OF VERNON".
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS. the Las Angeles &. Sa1tLakeRailroad Company
(formerly San Pedro.. Los Angeles &. Salt Lake Ra.ilroad Company),. and. its
Lessee$ Union Pacific Railroad. Company, has granted to. theCftyof Verno.n
an easement for the construction.. operation and maintenance of a public
highway-across that certain parcel of land situate in the City of Vernan,.
County of Los Angeles,. State of California,. and being a portian of that
certain 80-foot right-of-way described in deed to Los Angeles Terminal
Railway Company,. recorded in Book 702.. page 281 of Deed.s.. records of
said County.. more particularly described as follows:
Beginning at the intersection of the easterly line of

Attached hereto are two prints prepared in this Office
showing the outline of a proposed easement from Los Angeles and
Salt Lake Railroad Company and Union Pacific Railroad Company to
City of Vernon for grade crossing now designated as private
crossing by the California Public Utilities Commission as No.
3A-3.9, which connects Do~ney Road, opposite Leonis Boulevard,
with District Boulevard, in the Central ~~nufacturing District.
There are also attached two copies of legal description of the
proposed easement.

This has been initiated by Los Angeles County Road
Department in connection with the proposed widening and improve-
ment of Downey Road from north line of Leonis Boulevard to
Slauson Avenue. The County Road Department proposes, along \vith
other work, to do some paving of the westerly side of the cross-
~ng from the easterly line of Do\~ey Road to within about two
feet of the most westerly rail of the westerly railroad track.
Under ex.isting laws and regulations the County Road Department
cannot do this work unless the City of Vernon has at least an
easement for the crossing.
It is my recommendation that the City Council make
formal application to Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad Company
and Union Pacific Railroad Company for the easement referred to
above and that one of the prints and copy of legal description
be sent to them for their preparation of the easement papers.
It is my understanding that this should be sent to ~~. C. M.
Bates, General ,.Land and Tax Agent, 422'Hest 6th Street, Los
Angeles 14, California.
