THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNQNR.ESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
WHElt,EAS # the City Council of theClty of Vernon has heretofore
directed a c.ommunication t()c the City of L.osAngeles wh1chproposed the
constructbm of a new sewer in a portion of Santa Fe Avenue by the City
of Vernon and a transferring of said new sewer to the City of LoS. Angeles
in return for the release by the City of Los Angeles to the City of Vernon
of all rights in the present sewer in said street~ and
WHER.E AS # a resolution has been. received by the CIty of Vernon
from the Board of Public Works .of.the City of .Los Angeles# in which th.e
above mentioned proposal was considered~ and
WH:EREAS, the Board of PubUe Works of the CIty of Los Angeles
considers. the proP.osal of the City of Vernon to be adva.ntageous to the
City of Los Angeles provLdingcertain conditions are met, and
WHEREAs, the City Council of the City of Vernon considers the
proposal t.o be advantageous to the City of Vernon and the conditions
imposed to he not unduly restricttve~ and
WHER..EAS. it is in the best interests of the City of Vernouthat an
agreement be entered into with the City .of Los Angeles. with regard to
the above cQnstruction and transfer of sewers and sewage rights, and
that such an agreement be prepared and executed as soon as possible #
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
1. That the City of Vernon hereby proposes to the City of Los Angeles
that an agreement be entered into whereby generally the following be
accomplished:

a) That a new sanitary sewer be constructed by the City of
Vernon in Santa Fe Avenue in the City of Vernon from 37th Street on
the south to the northern city boundary of the City of Vernon on the north.
b) That the new sewer be constructed of 18-inch diameter pipe
at not less than 0.25% grade in accordance with plans and specifications
to be prepared in accordance with standards of the City of Los Angele.s
and the City of Vernon and to be approved by the City Engineers of both
cities. and that such construction shall be under the inspection of the
Inspector of Public Works of the City of Los Angeles as well as the Engi-
neering Department of the City of Vernon.
c) That proper connection be made to the Los Angeles sewer in
the vicinity of the north city boundary of the City of Vernon. and that the
Same proper connection be made with the interceptor sewer in 37th Street
in the City of Vernon.
d) That upon proper connection being made. the existing sewer
in Santa Fe Avenue. parallel to said new sewer. be disconnected from the
Los Angeles sewer at the north boundary line of Vernon and disconnected
from the interceptor sewer in 37th Street.
e) That upon said disconnection as referred to in subparagraph
d) above. the ownership of the new sewer be formally transferred to the
City of Los Angeles together with the authority to maintain. operate.
repair and replace said sewer by the City of Los Angeles.
f) That upon said disconnection as referred to above. the City of
Los Angeles relinquish to the City of Vernon all rights of ownership and
capacity in and to the old "j oint 1I sewer in Santa Fe Avenue between 37th
Street and the north city boundary of the City of Vernon.
g) That appropriate action be taken by the legislative bodies of
the two cities to perfect such rights.
h) That all costs of construction of the new sewer. including
costs of engineering and inspection be borne by the City of Vernon.
i) That all costs of maintenance. operation. repair and replace-
ment of the new sewer be borne by the City of Los Angeles. and that all

j) That in the event all connections to the old sewer from the
CIty of. Los Angeles cann.ot be disconnected hecauseof physical or economical
reasons that the proper consIderation for said conne.ctions be resolved
by mutual agreement between the cities.
2. That the CIty Clerk of the City of Vernon is. directed to certify
to: th.e passage of thIs resolution and to forthwith transmlta copy thereof
to the City of Los Angeles I CIty Rall#. Los Angele:slCalifQrnial and to
the. attention. of the Board oiPubltc Works I with a request for prompt
act ion thereon.
ADOPTED AND APPROVED AT A REGULAR MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON ON THE 6th DAY OF
JANUARY1 1959.
