DIRECTING THE GIVING OF NOTICE INVITING SEALED PROPOSALS

THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1:
The City Clerk of the City of Vernon is hereby
9 directed to give notice inviting sealed proposals or bids for the construction
10 of the 37th Street Water Main from Santa Fe Avenue to Soto Street, and the
11 Notice Inviting Sealed Proposals contained in said Contract No. 231.

SECTION 2:
There being no newspaper of general circulation
13 printed~ pubUshedand circulated in the City of V ernon~ the City Clerk is
14 hereby direct.ed to post said notice. or cause the same to be posted, in three
15 (3) of the most public places in said City, to wit: the northwest corner of
16 38th Street and Santa Fe Avenue; the northeast corner of Leonis Boulevard

17 and Pacific Boulevard. and on the bulletin board in the lobby of the City Hall
18 of the City of Vernon~ located at 4305 Sa.nta Fe Avenue in said City.

SECTION 3:
The first posting of said notice shall be not less
20 than ten (10) days before the date of opening bids for the proposed work. The
21 notice shall distinctly state the work to be done.

SECTION.4:
The City Clerk of the City of Vernon shall
23 certify to the passage of this Resolution. and thereupon and thereafter the
241 same shall be in full force and effect.

STREET WATER MAIN FROM SANTA FE
AVENUE TO SOTO STREET I' IN ACCORDANCE
WITH CONTRACT NO. 231 OF THE CITY OF
VERNON.
6 Pursuant to Resolution No. 2295 of the City of Vernon. adopted
7 on the 1st day of September~ 195.9~ directing same. notice is hereby given
8 that sealed proposals or bids will be received by the City of Vernon, Cali-
9 fornia~ at the office of the City Clerk of said City. at the City Hall. 4305
10 Santa Fe Avenue~ until the hour of two 01 clock P. M.. on the 6th day of
11 October. 1959, for construction of the 37th Street water main from Santa Fe
12 Avenue to Soto Street~ in accordance with Contract No. 231 approved by said
13 City. The proposals will be publicly opened and read in the Council Chamber
14 of the City Hall located at 4305 Santa Fe Avenue. Vernon~ Ca.lifornia. on the
15 date and at the time above mentioned. Specifications and contract documents
16 may be obtained at the above-mentioned office of the City Clerk upon payment
17 of a deposit of ten dollars ($10.00) for each specification.
18 The construction to be done and materials to be furnished under
19 said Contract No. 231 are approximately as follows:

1 Bidders are hereby notified that. pursuant to the provisions of
2 Sections 1770-1781, inclusive, Labor Code of California~ the City Council of
3 the City of Vernon has ascertained the general prevailing rate of per diem
4 wages and rates for legal holidays and over-time work in the locality in which
5 this work is to be performed. for each craft or type of workman or mechanic
6 needed to execute the contract which will be awarded to the successful bidder,
7 and that the Resolution establishing these prevailing rates is on file with the
8 City Clerk of the City of Vernon.
9 Notice is also hereby given that, pursuant to said Labor Code of
10 California, it shall be mandatory upon the Contractor to whom the Contract is '
11 awarded~ and upon any subcontractor under him, to pay to all laborers, work-
12 men or mechanics employed by them in the execution of the Contract not less
13 than the said specified rates~ which rates shall be included in the Contract to
14 the successful bidder.
15 Notice is further hereby given that all bidders may submit with
16 their bids a sworn statement of their financial responsibility, technical
17 ability and experience. Such sworn statement may be required to be fur-

nished before award is made to any particular bidder.
To be entitled to consideration, each bid submitted pursuant to
this notice shall be made out on a form to be obtained at the Office of the City
Engineer; shall be accompanied by a certified check. draft or bid bond,
payable at a bank authorized to do business in the State of California, made
payable at sight to the City Clerk of the City of Vernon. in amount equal to
ten per cent (10%) of the bid submitted~ shall be delivered to the City Clerk
of the City of Vernon in a sealed envelope at, or before, the time stated
herein,. and must be plainly marked Hproposal for Construction of 37th Street
Water Main. II
The above-mentioned check or bond shall be given as a guarantee
that the bidder will enter into a contract if awarded to him and will be declare'
forfeited if the successful bidder refuses or neglects to enter into a contract
of the required form after being requested to do so by the City Clerk of the
City of Vernon, California. The successful bidder will be required to furnis

a labor and material bond in an amount equal to fifty per cent (50%) of the

Contract price. and a faithful performance bond in an amount equal to one hun-
dred percent (100%) of the Contract price.
Unless otherwise required by law, no bidder may withdraw his
hid for a period of thirty (30) days after the date set for the opening thereof.
A deposit of ten dollars ($10. 00) will be required to secure the
Plans and Specifications ~ as a gua.rantee that the Plans and Specifications
will be returned. which deposit will be refunded in case same are returned
to the City in good condition not later than forty-eight (48.) hours after the
bids on the work will have been opened.
The City of Vernon reserves the right to reject any and all bids
or waive any informality in the bid.
