For the past year or more, a considerable amount of eonver~tion has been
generated regarding the possibility of having a World's Fair in the Southern Calif-
ornia area~ To this end, a group of dynamic leaders have dedicated themselves,
In order to comply with~he requirements of the International Bureau of Exposi-
tions in Paris, it became necessary to secure the approval of City, County, State,
and Federal agencies, including Congress and the great office of President of the
United States. This herculean task is about to be completed, but the tremendous
impact of a World's Fair has been recognized nationally, and as of this date, New
York, Washington D.C., and Miami are all fighting for positionaL
Last week the President of the United states appointed a three man committee
to select the best site available. The first hearings are to be held on the 23rd
of October with site visitations following. Therefore, it becomes necessary that
we in California indicate to the Administration in Washington, splidarity in' our
desire to have the World's Fair here in 1963 or 1964. We must now support those
who have carried the initial action thus far.
~he impact of a World's Fair on the development of property and the injection
of FOUR BILLION tourist dollars into our STATE economy are important reasops for
supporting this effort. Add to that the benefits to be derived by the use of the
F~ir facilities as a World Trade center---an industrial center of tremendous magni~
tut8 which would enable our industry to showcase its products in an atmosphere
c,:mducive to attracting buyers from allover the world. Your community and hundreds
cf others over the state will certainly benefit tremendously from this grea~ event.
Time is of the ~ssence!
Your iLterest and support can best be manifested by the adoption of a resol~.'
tion by your august body, endorsing the World's fair project. A model resolutio~,
is enclosed for your convenience. When completed, please mail to the California
World's Fair, Inc., 417 South Hill Street, Los Angeles.
Gentlemen, a seed has been planted, and a tree has begun to grow. Whether
