RESOLUTION NO. 2331
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON
DIRECTING THE GIVING OF NOTICE INVITING SEALED PROPOSALS OR
BIDS FOR THE RESURFACING OF SLAUSON AVENUE FROM BOYLE
AVENUE TO DOWNEY ROAD" IN ACCORDANCE WITH CONTRACT NO.
236 OF THE CITY OF VERNON.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON RESOLVES. AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1:
The City Clerk of the City of Vernon is
hereby directed to give notice inviting sealed proposals or bids for the
resurfacing of Slauson Avenue from Boyle Avenue to Downey Road, in
accordance with Contract No. 236# and the Notice Inviting Sealed Propos.als
contained in said Contract No. 236.
SECTION 2:
There being no newspaper of generalcircula-
tion printed, published and circulated in the City of Vernon, the City Clerk
is hereby directed to post said notice, or cauSe the same to be posted# in
three (3) of the most public places in said City, to wit: the northwest corner
of 38th Street and Santa .Fe Avenue; the northeast corner of Leonis Boulevard
and Pacific Boulevard# and on the bulletin board in the lobby of the City Hall
of the City of Vernon# located at 4305 Santa Fe Avenue in said City.
SECTION 3:
The first posting of said not.ice shall be
not less than ten (10) days before the date of opening bids. for the proposed
work. The notice shall distinctly state the materials to be furnished and
the work to be done.
SECTION 4:
The City Clerk of the City of Vernon shall
certify to the passage of this Resolut.ion# and thereupon and thereafter the
sam.e shall be in full force and effect.
ADOPTED and APPROVED this 5th day of April# 1960.

ACCORDANCE WITH CONTRACT NO. 236 OF
THE CITY OF VERNON
Pursuant to Res.olution No. 2331 of the City of Vernon# adopted on
the 5th day of April# 1960# directingsame# notice is hereby given that
sealed. proposals or bids will be received by the City of Vernon" California"
at the office of the City Clerk of said City# at the City Hall# 4305 Santa Fe
Avenue # until the hour of two (2) oJclockP. M." on the 19th day of April#
1960# for the resurfacing of Slaus.on Avenue from Boyle Avenue to Downey
Road" in accordance with Contract No. 236 approved by said City. The
proposals will be publicly opened and read in the Council Chambers of the
City Hall located at 4305 Santa Fe Avenue" Vernon" California" on the date
and at the time above mentioned. Specifications and contract docum.ents
may be obtained at the above-mentioned office of the City Clerk upon pay-
.mentof a deposit of ten dollars ($10.00) for each specification.
The construction to be done and materials to be furnished under said
Contract No. 236 are approximately as folloW's:
Heater-plane existing asphalt concrete
pavement to plan grade
165" 800 sq. ft.
Construct variable thickness asphalt
concrete wearing surface
1800 tons
Resetting manhole frames and covers
21 each
24 The construction shall be in accordance W"ithPlan No. A3-1574 and
25 Contract No. 236 he retofore approved by the City Council of said City"and
26 now on file in the office of the City Clerk of said Cit.y" a copy of which may

to execute the contract which will be awarded to the successful bidder# and
that the Resolution establishing these prevailing rates is on file with the
City Clerk of the City of Vernon.
Notice is also hereby given that# pursuant to said Labor Code of
California# it shall be mandatory upon the Contractor to whom the Contract
is:awarded~ .and upon any sub-contractor under him" to pay t.o alllaborers#
w.orkmen or mechanics employed by them in the execution of the Contract
not less than the said specified rates~ which rates shall be included in the
Contract to the succes.sful bidder.
Notice is further hereby given that all bidders may submit with their
bids a sworllstateme nt of their financial responsibility# technical ability
and experience. Such sworn statement may he required to be furnished
before award is made to any particular bidder.
To be entitled to consideration, each bid submitted pursuant to this
notice shall be made out on a form to be obtained at the Office of the City
Engineer; shall be accompanied by a certified check, draft or bid bond"
payable at a bank authorized to do business in the State of California# made
payable at sight t.o the City Clerk of the City of Vernon# in amount equal to
ten per cent (10%) .of the bid submitted# shall be delivered to the City Clerk
of the City of Vernon ina sealed envelope at~ or before# the time stated
herein" and mus.t be plainly marked "Proposal for Contract No. 236".
The above-mentioned check or bond shall be given as a guarantee
that the bidder will enter into .acontract if awarded to him and will be
declared forfeited if the successful bidder refuses or neglects to enter into
a contract of the required form after being requested to do so by the City
Clerk of the City of Vernon# California. The successful bidder will be
required to furnish a labor and material bond. in an amount equal to fifty per
cent (500/0) of the Contract price~ and a faithful performance bond in an am.ount
equal to one hundred per cent (1000/0) of the Contract price.
Unless otherwis.e required by law# no bidder may withdraw his bid
for a period of thirty (30) days after the date set for the opening thereof.

A deposit of ten dollars ($10.00) will be required to secure the Plans
2 and Speciftcations# as a guarantee that the Plans and Specifications will be
3 returned~ which deposit will be refunded in cas.e same are returned. to the
4 City in good. condition not later than forty-eight (48.) hours after the bids on
5 the work will have been opened.
6 The City of Vernon reserves the right to reject any and all bids or
7 waive any informality in the bid.
