A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON
DmECTING THE GIVING OF NOTICE INVITING SEALED PROPOSALS
OR BIDS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE 26TH STREET WATER MAIN
FROM 1880 FEET WEST OF INDIANA STREET TO 540 FEET WEST OF
INDIANA STREET~ IN ACCORDANCE WITH CONTRACT NO. 241 OF THE
CITY OF VERNON.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1:
The City Clerk of the City of Vernon is
hereby directed to give notice inviting sealed proposals or bids for the
construction of the 26th Street Water Main from 1880 feet west of Indiana
Street to 540 feet West of Indiana Street~ in accordance with Contract No.
241 and Plan No. B4A-1575.. consisting of one sheet~and the Notice Inviting
Sealed Proposals contained in said Contract No. 241.
SECTION 2:
There being no newspaper of general cir-
culation printed, published and circulated in the City of Vernon.. the City
Clerk is hereby directed to post said notice, or cause the same to be posted"
in three (3) of the most publicplaces in said City~ to wit: the northwest
corner of 38th Street and Santa Fe Avenue; the northeast corner of Leonis
Boulevard and Pacific Boulevard# and on the bulletin board in the lobby of
the City Hall of the City of Vernon~ located at 43:05 Santa Fe Avenue in said Cit .
SECTION 3:
The first posting of said notice shall be not
less than ten(10) days before the date of opening bids for the proposed work.
The notice shall distinctly state the materials to be furnished and the work
to be done.
SECTION 4:
The City Clerk of the City of Vernon shall
25 certify to the passage of this Resolution~ a.nd thereupon and thereafter the
26 same shall be in full force and effect.

8 sealed proposals or bids will be received by the City of Vernon~ California.
9 at the office of the City Clerk of said City, at the City HatI# 4305 Santa Fe
10 Avenue # until the hour of two (2) otclockP.Mq on the 17th day of Ma.y~ 1960"
11 for construction of the 26th Street water main from 1880 feet west of Indiana.
12 Street to 540 feet west of Indiana Street, in accordance with Contract No. 241
13 app.roved by said City. The proposals will be publicly opened and read in
14 the Council Chambers of the City Hall located at 4305 Santa Fe Avenue~
15 Vernon# California" on the date and at the time above mentioned. Specifica-
16 tions and contract documents may be obtained at the above-mentioned office
17 of the City Clerk upon payment of a deposit of ten dollars ($10.00) for each
18 specification.

The construction shall be in accordance with Plan No. B4A-1575
consisting of one sheet and Contract No. 241 heretofore approved by the
City Council of said City, and now on file in the office of the City Clerk of
said City, a copy of which may be secured from the City Engineer of said
City.
Bidders are hereby notified that" pursuant to the provisions of
Sections 1770 -1781" inclusive" Labor Code of California. the City Council
of the City of Vernon has ascertained the general prevailing rate of per diem
wages and rates for legal holidays and over-time work in the locality in which
this work is to be performed" for each craft or type of workman or mechanic
needed to execute the contract which will be awarded to the successful bidder~
and thai the Resolution establishing these prevailing rates is on file with the.
City Clerk of the City of Vernon.
Notice is also hereby given that, pursuant to said Labor Code of
California, it shall be mandatory upon the Contractor to whom the Contract
is awarded~ and upon any subcontractor under him, to pay to al1laborers~
workmen or mechanics employed by them in the execution of the Contract not
less than the said specified rates, which rates shall be included in the
Contract to the successful bidder.
Notice is further hereby given that all bidders may submit with
their bids a sworn statement of their financial responsibility, technical
22 ability and experience. Such sworn statement may be required to be fur-
23 nished before award is made to any particular bidder.
24 To be entitled to consideration, each bid submitted pursuant to this
25 notice shall be made out on a form to be obtained at the Office of the City
26 Engineer; shan be accompanied by a certified check" draft or bid bond. pay-

1 The above..,.mentioned check or bond shall be given as a guarantee
2 that the bidder will enter into a contract if awarded to him and will be de-
3 clared forfeited if the successful bidder refuses or neglects to enter into a
4 contract of the required form after being requested to do so by the City Clerk
5 of the City of Vernon" California. The successful bidder will be required to
6 furnish a labor and material bond in an amount equal to fifty per cent (50%)
7 of the Contract price~ and a faithful performance bond in an amount equal to
8 one hundred per c.ent (100%) of the Contract price.
9 Unless otherwise required by law~ no bidder may withdraw his bid
10 for a period of thirty (30) days after the date set for the opening thereof.
11 A deposit of ten dollars .($10.00) will be required to secure the
12 Plans and Spec.ifications~ as a guarantee that the Plans and Specifications
13 will be returned, which deposit will be refunded in case same are returned
14 to the City in good condition not later than forty-eight (48.) hours after the
15 bids on the work will have been opened.
16 The City of Vernon reserves the right to reject any and all bids
17 or waive any informality in the bid.
