A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON

THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1:
Employees of the Fire Department shall
7 receive additional compensation to raise their pay to the next highest grade.
8 above the grade which they are now receiving. when they are assigned by
9 the Fire Chief to special duties inconsistent with their present classification.

SECTION 2:
No additional compensation shall be paid for
11 assignments to special duties for periods of time less than one month. For
12 convenience of accounting, these assignments shall be on a full calendar
13 monthly basis only.

SECTION 3:
The Fire Chief shall immediately file a written
15 notice to the City Clerk whenever an employee is assigned to special duty,
16 stating the type of special duty. the employeets name, regular job classifica-
17 tion and grade. The Fire Chief shall immediately file a written notice to the
18 City Clerk when an employee. who has been assigned to special duty, is
19 returned to duty consistent with his regular job classification.
SECTION 4:
The City Clerk of the City of Vernon is
21 hereby directed to certify to the passage of this Resolution and thereupon
22 and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.

Honorable Members:
Authority is respectfully requested to reassign Battalion Chief Foster
to the position of Captain in the Fire Fighting forcer and It is further requested
that the payroll resolution be amended to provide that employees of the Fire
Department shall receive additional compensation equivalent to one step in
pay when assigned to special duty/such as the Fire Prevention Bureau, Training
or Administration.
At times it becomes necessary to assign some of our personnel tOr for
example, Fire Preventlon, so that these men will become more familiar with
plants in their district and will become better qualified to fight fires, knowing
some of the special hazards they might encounter in these industrial plants.
It is also necessary at times, to assign a man to assist in the Training
Division; to take special courses such as First Aid, Rescue Practices and Fire
Apparatus Maintenance so that these subjects can be taught later to all personnel.
Due to the schedules of some of these courses/ the men sometimes have to spend
some of their off duty time In order to accomplish this purpose.
