A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON
DIRECTING THE GIVING OF NOTICE INVITING SEALED PROPOSALS
OR BIDS FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF 50TH STREET FROM ALCOA
AVENUE TO DOWNEY ROAD.. IN ACCORDANCE WITH CONTRACT
NO. 265 OF THE CITY OF VERNON.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON RES<>LVES AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1:
The City Clerk of the City o.f Verno.n is hereby
directed to. give no.tice inviting sealed pro.Po.sals o.r bids far the impro.vement
o.f 50th Street fro.m Alcoa Avenue to. Do.wney RQad~ in acco.rdance with
Co.ntract No. 265 and Plan No.. A3-1592~ and the No.tice Inviting Sealed
Proposals can taine d in said Co.ntract No.. 265.
SECTION 2:
There being no newspaper of generalcircula-
tion printed~ published and circulated in the City o.f Verno.n~ the City Clerk
is hereby directed to post said no.tice. o.r cause the same to. be pasted.. in
three (3) of the most public places in said City~ to. wit: at the no.rthwest
co.rner o.f 38th Street and .Santa Fe Avenue; the no.rtheast co.rner o.f Leo.nis
Bo.ulevard and Pacific Bo.ulevard.. and an the bulletin bo.ard in the lo.bby o.f
the City Hall o.f the City of Verno.n~ Io.cated at 4305 Santa Fe Avenue in said
City.
SECTION 3:
The first po.stingo.f said notice shall be no.t
less than ten (10) days befo.re the date of opening bids for the pro.posed wo.rk.
The no.tice shall distinctly state the materials to. be furnished and the wo.rk
to. be do.ne.
SECTION 4:
The City Clerk o.f the City o.f Verno.n shall

NOTICE INVITING SEALED PROPOSALS OR
BIDS FOR'THE IMPROVEMENT OF 50TH
STREET FROM ALCOA AVENUE TO DOWNEY
ROAD~ IN ACCORDANCE W.ITH CONTRACT
NO. 265 OF THE CITY OF VERNON.
Pursuant to Resolution No. 2466 of the City of Vernon.. adopted
on the 1st day of August.. 1961~ directing same.. notice is hereby given that
sealed proposals or bids will he received by the City of Vernon~ California..
at the office of the City Clerk of said City~ at the City Hall.. 4305 Santa Fe
Avenue.. until the hour of two {2} o'clock P.M., on the 15th day of August,
1961". for the improvement of 50th Street from Alcoa Avenue to Downey
Road.. in accordance with Contract No. 265 approved by said City. The
proposals will be publicly opened and read in the Council Chambers of the
City Hall located at 4305 Santa Fe Avenue.. Vernon~ Californi~ on the date
and at the time above mentioned. Specifications and contract docum.ents
may be obtained at the above-mentioned office of the City Clerk upon pay-
ment of a deposit of ten dollars ($10. DO} for each specification.
Furnishing and placing screenings
60 tons
Furnishing and placing bituminous binder
Constructing asphalt concrete pavement
1200 gallons
200 tons
Excavating and disposing of earth
90 cu. yd.
Resetting manhole frame and cover
1 each
The construction shall be in accordance with Plan No. A3-1592 and
Contract No. 265 heretofore approved by the City Council of said City.. and
now on file in the office of the City Clerk of said City.. a copy of which may
be secured from the City Engineer of said City.
Bidders are hereby notified that, pursuant to the provisions of
Sections 1770-1781.. inclUSive.. Labor Code of California.. the City Council
of the City of Vernon has ascertained the general prevailing rate of per
die.ID wageaand rates for legal holidays and over-time work in the locality
in which this work is to be performed~ for each craft or type of workman
ormechamc needed to execute the contract~ which will be awarded to the
succesaful bidder.. and that the ResolutionestabUsning these prevailing rates

Notice is also hereby given that.. pursuant to said Labor Code
of California" it shall be mandatory upon the Contractor to whom the
contract is awarded" and upon any subcontractor under him.. to pay all
laborers" workmen" or m.echanics .employed by them in the execution of
the contract not less than the said specifted rates.. which rates shall be
included in the contract to the successful bidder.
Notice is further hereby given that all bidders may submit with
their bids a sworn statement of their financial responsibility" technical
ability and experience. Such sworn statement may be required before
award is made to any particular bidder.
To be entitled to consideration" each bid submitted pursuant to
this notice shall be made out on a form to be obtained at the Office of the
City Engineer; shall be accompanied by a certified check.. draft or bid
bond" payable at a bank authorized to do business in the State of California,
made payable at sight to the City Clerk of the City of Vemon" in amount
equal to ten per cent (lO%)of the bid submitted" shall be delivered to the City
Clerk of the City of Vernon in a sealed envelope at.. or before" the time
stated herein" and must be plainly marked "Proposal for Contract No. 265".
The above-mentioned check or bond shall be given as a guarante.e
that the bidder will enter into a contract if awarded to him and will be
declared forfeited if the successful bidder refuses or neglects to enter into
a contract of the required form after being requested to do so by the City
Clerk of the City of Vernon" California. The successful bidder will be
required to furnish a labor and material bond in an amount equal to fifty
per cent {500/0} of the Contract price, and a faithful performance bond in an
amount equal to one hundred percent (1000/0) of the Contract price.
Unless otherwise required by law" no bidder may withdraw his
bid for a period of thirty (30) days after the date set for the opening thereof.
A deposit of ten dollars ($10.00) will be required to secure the
Plans and Speciftcations" as a guarantee that the Plans and Specifications
will be returned.. which deposit will be refunded in case same are returned

The City of Vernon reserves the right to reject any and all bids
or waive any informality in the bid.
