DIRECTING THE GIVING OF NOTICE INVITING SEALED PROPOSALS OR
4 BIDS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF VERNON AVENUE RELIEF SEWER. IN
VERNON AVENUE FROM ALCOA AVENUE TO TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY
5 FEET (250') EAST OF ALCOA AVENUE IN ACCORDANCE WITH CONTRACT
NO. 269 OF THE CITY OF VERNON.

7 THE. CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1:
The City Clerk of the City of Vernon is hereby
9 directed to give notice inviting .sealed proposals or bids for the construction
10 of Vernon Avenue Relief Sewer" in Vernon Avenue from Alcoa Avenue to
11 two hundred and fifty feet (250') East of Alcoa Avenue in accordance with
12 Contract No. 269, and the Notice Inviting Sealed Proposals contained in
13 said Contract No. 269.

SECTION 2:
There being no newspaper of general drcula-
tion printed" published and circulated in the City of Vernon~ the City Clerk
is hereby directed to post said notice, or cause the same to be posted, in
three (3) of the most public places in said City" to w it: the northwest corner
of 38th Street and Santa Fe Avenue; the northeast corner of Leonis Bo.ulevard
and Pacific Boulevard, and on the bulletin board in the lobby of the City Hall
of the City of Vernon, located at 4305 Santa Fe Avenue in said City.
SECTION 3:
The first posting of said notice shall be not
less than ten (10) days before the date of opening bids for the proposed work.
The notice shall di.stinctly state the materials to be furnished and the work
to be done.
SECTION 4:
The City Clerk of the City of Vernon shall
cerity to the passage of this Resolution, and thereupon and thereafter the
same shall be in full force and effect.

6 Pursuant to Resolution No. 2488 of the City of Vernon" adopted
7 on the 5th day of September" 1961~ directing s.ame, notice is hereby given
8 that sealed proposals or bids will be received by the City of Vernon"
9 California~ at the office of the City Clerk of said City" at the City Hall,
10 4305 Santa Fe Avenue, until the hour of two (2) 0' dock p. M... on the 19th
11 day of September" 1961" for the construction of Vernon Avenue Rellef
12 Sewer" in accordance with Contract No. 269 approved by said City. The
13 proposals will be publicly opened and read in the Council Chambers of
14 the City Hall located at 4305 Santa Fe Avenue" Vernon, California, on the
15 date and at the time above mentioned. Specifications and contract documents

may be obtained at the above-mentioned office of the City Clerk upon payment
of a deposit of ten dollars ($10.00) for each specification.
The construction to be done and materials to be furnished under
said Contract No. 269 are approximately as follows:
10 inch diameter vitrified clay pipe sewer,
complete in place
242 lin. ft.
Standard Manhole nAn, complete in place
Remodel existing junction chamber nAn
2 each
1 each
The construction shall be in accordance with Plans No. Al-1596
and Contract No. 269 heretofore approved by the City Council of said City"
and now on fUe in the office of the City Clerk of said City" copy of which
may be secured from the City Engineer of said City.
Bidders. are he rebynotified that" pursuant to the provisions. of
Sections 1770-1781~ inclusive" Labor Code of California, the City Council
of the City of Vernon has ascertained the general prevailing rate of per diem
wages and rates for legal holidays and over-time work in the locality in which
this work is to be performed~ for each craft or type of workman or mechanic

needed to execute the contract which will be awarded to the successful
bidder" .and that the Resolution establishing these prevailing rates is on file
with the City Clerk of the City of Vernon.
Notice is also hereby given that" pursuant to said Labor Code of
California, it shall be mandatory upon the Contractor to whom the contract
is awarded~ and upon any subcontractor under him~ to pay alllaborers~
workmetl~ or me chanics employed by them in the execution of the contract
not less than the said specified rates, which rates shall be included in the
contract to the successful bidder.
Notice is furtherherehy given that all bidders may submit with
their bids a sworn statement of their financial responsibility~ technical
ability and experience. Such sworn statement may be required before
award is made to .any particular bidder.
To be entitled to consideration, each bid submitted pursuant to
this notice shall be made out on a form to be obtained at the Office of the
City Engineer; shall be accompanied by a certified check" draft or bid
bond, payable at a bank authorized to do business in the State of California,
made payable at sight to the City Clerk of the City of Vernon~ in amount equal
to ten per cent (100/0) of the bid submitted" shall be delivered to the City Clerk
of the City of Vernon in a sealed envelope,at, or before~ the time stated
herein, and must be plainly marked "Proposal for Contract No. 269".
The above-mentioned check or bond shall be given as a guarantee
that the bidder will enter into a contract if awarded to him and will be
declared forfeited if the successful bidder refuses or neglects to enter into
a contract of the required form after being requested to do so hy the City
Clerk of the City of Vernon~ Cal ifornia. The successful bidder will be
required to furnish a labor and ~aterial bond in an amount equal to fifty
per cent (50%} of the Contract price" and a faithful performance bond in
an amount equal to one hundred per cent (100%) of the Contract price.
Unless otherwis.e required by law, no bidder may withdraw his
bid for a period of thirty (30) days after the date set for the opening thereof.

1 A deposit of ten dollars ($10.00) will be required to secure the
2 Plans and Specifications, as a guarante.e that the Plans and Specifications
3 will be returned, which deposit will be refunded in case same are returned
4 to the City in good condition not later than forty-eight (48}lDurs after the bids
5 on the work will have been opened.
6 The City of Vernon reserves the right to reject any and all bids
7 or waive any informality in the bid.
