RESOLUTION NO.' 2885
2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL ESTABLISHING VACATION POLICIES FOR
EMPLOYEEs OF THE CITY OF VERNON, AND REPEALING ALL RESOLUTIONS IN
'.3 CONFLICT HEREWITH. .
4 THE CITY COUNCIL .OF THE CITY OF VERNON DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:

WHEREAS, the City Council desires to establish policies
6 governing vacations that will be fair and equitable to all City
7 employees; and
8 WHEREAS, the working schedules of various employees of
9 the City Departments.are not,the same;
10 NOW, TJiEREl!ORE, BE IT RESOLVED:

SECTION 1': That certain employees Qfthe Police, Fire
12 and Water Departments of the City of Vernon, whose duties are such
13 that they do not have or receive . the itil1le qff benefits of regular
14 legal holidays, shall be entitled to three calendar weeks vacation
15 during.. the second year of said service and each year thereafter,
16 at full pay.

SECTION'2: That each employee of the City, except those
18 specifically mentio.ned in Section 1 of this resolution., Shall be
19 entitled to ten (10) working days vacation during the second year
20 of said service and each year thereafter at full pay. Permanent,
21 full-time employees, except those specifically mentioned in Section
22 1 of this resolution, who have completed ten (10) years of con-
23 tinuousservice, shall be granted fifteen (15) working days annual
24 vacation leave. with pay. This section shall apply, but not be
25 limited, to employees of the Police, Fire and Water Departments
26 of the City of Vernon who have or receive the time off benefits of
27 regular lega.l holidays.

SECTION 3: That all permanent, full-time employees in
29 the cat.egoryor classification specified in Section 1 of this
30 resolution, who have completed ten (10) years of continuous service
31 shall be granted .four (4) calendar weeks annua,l vacation leave with
32 pay, with a stipulation that employees entitled to four calendar

1 weeks an.nual vacation with pay may not take more than three (3)
2 calendar weeks at anyone time. The only exception to the above
~ policy is that a Department Head may for good reason, in his
4 discretion, authorize an eligible employee to take all four weeks
5 at the same time. It is the intention of the City Council that
6 the fourth week granted to eligible employees be taken at some
7 time other than the normal or regula.r vacation period so that it
8 will be u~necessary to employ additional personnel during vacation
9

periods, and that said fourth week be taken any time during the
calendar year that is satisfactory to the Department Head.
SECTION 4: All vacation periods shall be arranged or
12 approved by the Administrative Head of each Department and shall
13 be taken by said employee or employees at any time during the
14 calendar year that is satisfactory to the Department Head.

SECTION 5: No vacation for any employee of the City of
16 Vernon shall be accumulated from calendar year to calendar year,
17 nor shall the same be compensated for if not utilized during a
18 calendar year.

SECTION 6: That Resolution No. 1583 and Section 5 of
20 Resolution No. 2836 is specifically repealed, and all Resolutions
21 in conflict with this Resolution are hereby repealed.

SECTION 7: That the City Clerk of the City of Vernon is
23 hereby directed to certify to the passage of this Resolution.
24 ADOPTED and APPROVED this 17th day of January, 1967.
