RESOLUTION NO. 2950
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, OPPOSING
THE PROPOSED CONSOLIDATION OF THE MUNICIPAL COURTS IN LOS ANGELES
COUNTY.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS, it has been proposed before the legislature of
the State of California that Munidpal and Justice Courts should
be consolidated on a County wide or other geographic basis differ-
ent from that presently in order pursuant to local geographic
distribution, and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon feels
that Municipal Court cases sk,uld be kept as close as possible to
the people and the areas where such cases originate, and
WHEREAS, the consolidation of such Municipal Courts will
undoubtedly cost time and money for all parties concerned in such
cases, including litigants, witnesses, jurors, lawyers, prosecutors,
police, and other persons involved, and
WHEREAS, the remoteness of a consolidated court from a
181 local area would minimize the local review of a judge's performance,

20 WHEREAS, administrative improvements and tax savings can
21 be achieved in our present court system on a local level, without
22 resorting to a ~urt consolidation,
23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:

SECTION I: That the City Council of the City of Vernon
25 does hereby oppose a consolidation of Municipal Courts in Los
26 Angeles County.

SECTION 2- That the City Council of the City of Vernon to
the extent that Municipal Courts may not otherwise be on a County
wide basis through<.ut the State of California does hereby oppose
the consolidation of Municipal Courts in other counties, other
than the County of Los Angeles.
SECTION 3: That the City Clerk of the City of Vernon shall

certify to the passage of this resolution, and thereupon and
thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
ADOPrED and APPROVED this 19th day of March, 1968.
