RESOLUTION NO. 3015
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, URGING
THE ADOPTION OF ASSEMBLY BILL 1356.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS., Assembly Bill NO. 1356 has been intrQducedto
determine an ambiguity as to whether fire fighters in cities in
the State of Californi.~ should be under the employer-employee
relations act.or under the fire fighters act, and
WHEREAS, the City CQuncil of the City of Vernon feels that
it would be in the best interests of all cities that the foregoing
ambiguity be clarified,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
SECTION 1: That the City Council of the City of Vernon
14 does urge the adoption of Assembly Bill 1356, presently pending
15 before the(Assembly of the State of California.

SECTION 2: That the City Clerk of the City of Vernon is
17 hereby directed to certify t. the passage of this resolution, and
18 thereupon and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effec .
19 ADOPTED and APPROVED this 20th day of May, 1969.

RESOLUTION 69-32
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
COSTA MESA URGING THE ADOPTION OF AB 1356, PLACING
FIREFIGHTERS IN CITIES UNDER THE EMPLOYER-EMPLOYEE
RELATIONS ACT.
WHEREAS, the employer-employee relationship of all employees in
public service should be covered by a single and uniform body of legisla-
tion to assure fair and equitable treatment; and
WHEREAS, a question presently exists as to whether firefighters
emp1o,yer-emp1oyee relations in cities are governed by Chapter 10, Division
4, Title 1 of the Government Code, or by Chapter 4 of Part 7 of Division
2 of the Labor Code; and
WHEREAS, the Legislative Counsel of the State of California has ex-
pressed the opinion that the courts might rule the Labor Code sections
have precedence over the Government Code provisions; and
WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 1356, as introduced by Assemblyman Robert
Burke, would clarify the situation and cause firefighters to be covered by
the Employer-Employee Relations Act as embodied in Senate Bill 1228; and
WHEREAS, this Council believes uniformity of regulation of all
employees would be in the best interest of both cities and city employees;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Costa Mesa, that all cities and their representatives in the State Legis-
lature are urged to give their support and endorsement to Assembly Bill
1356 in order that uniform regulation of employer-employee relationships
may be attained for all public employees.
PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS 21st day of April, 1969.
