5 THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VElUlON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1: That the settlement: of the su:f.t filed on behalf
7 of the City of Vernon against Edgington Oil Company, being !D STATE
. .
8 OF CALIFOUIA, et al., Plaintiffs, v. STANDARD OIL COMPANY OF CALI-
9 FOUIA, et al., Defendants, Civil Action No. 51107, as set forth
10 in the Settlement Agreement dated April 3, 1973, entered into on
11 behalf of the City of Vernon by its counsel is hereby authorized,
12 approved and ratified.

SECTION 2: That R. J. Furlong, Mayor be and he is hereby
14 authorized to execute and deliver the Final Release approved by its
15 counsel (Exhibit C to the Settlement Agreement) and cause the suit
16 to be dismissed without prejudice, each party to bear its own costs
17 and attorneys' fees.

SECTION 3: That the City Clerk of the City of Vernon shall
19 certify to the passage of this Resolution and thereupon and there-
20 after the same shall be in full force and effect.

Western Liquid Asphalt cases - Witco and
Edgington Settlements
HONORABLE MEMBERS:
This office has been contacted by the Office of the
Attorney General of the State of California recommending and
requesting that the City of Vernon, along with other cities
involved in the above matters, execute Final Releases for
sett1ementswith the above companies and, further, adopt Reso-
lutions approving said settlements.
I would recommend that the foregoing requests be honored,
and for that purpose I have prepared Resolutions and recommend
that the same be adopted. In addition, I would recommend that
the Mayor be authorized to execute the Final Settlement Agree-
ments and that the same then be forwarded to the Attorney
General's Office.

attempt to monopolize, conspiracy to monopolize, conspiracy
or combination in restraint of trade, and unfair competition,
in connection with the manufacture, marketing and sale o! '
liquid asphalt up to and including the date of this release.
