Resolution No. 4464 'I, l 1 2 3 RESOLUTION NO. 4464 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON URGING THE CONSERVATION OF WATER 4 WHEREAS, the drought in Northern and Central' California 5 has intensified during the last several months; and 6 WHEREAS, some Northern and Central California, communities 7 have had to impose rationing of domestic and municipal water use, 8 and agricultural users in the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys 9 will be required to reduce their take of agricultural water from 10 the State Water Project; and 11 WHEREA5,it will be necessary for water purveyors in 12 Southern California to draw substantially on water stored in the 13 underground basin; and 15 16 17 18 jJ~~ ~ ~ 20 F c 21 , 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 14 WHEREAS, if 1978 is also a drought year, the depletion of carryover water in surface storage in the State Water Project system and the continued dependence on ,underground s~orage may causl!;{,water shortage conditions in most areas of California; and [ ,J WHEREAS r the said severe drought will cause the loss of imany jobs and other economic dislocations throughout the State, and it i~_ imger~tiv~t~a~ antidrought measures be taken which will , au:g~~1; ,water, service .,tnroughout California so as to preserve 'l!.';: "1~ :i/" 'J.} '~~. ...... ,.~;, ,!: -i;,,~, '+' eve:;y po.s9i91e job and help maintain a healthy economy. . -. , ;IVOW',i THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE ,,~ ~'", -\"' :'- '_ ,"1.- C,ITY,9F YEPNPl}l.~S,.,.f9Uows: .~ ~ . p' (" i._~t <~ '\.i ~",~,,, i-' ~ 'f SECTION l: All water users within Southern California are hereby requested and urged to eliminate wasteful uses of water in order to maximia;e the availability of water'throughout the State~ . 1; .! 1 SECTION 2:: All water purveyors within Southern California 2 are urged to join with the City in making and encouraging every 3 effort to use water wisely and to advise water customers how to 4 coriserve and avoid wasteful uses of water. 5 6 7 SECTION, 3: The Department of Public Works' is directed to develop guidelines to identify water uses which should be con.... sidered nonessential or which can be substantially reduced during 8 9 10 11 12 13 drought conditions and to communicate such information too;1;her public agencies and water distribution agencies, public interest groups and to the media for dissemination to the public.
