CITY OF VERNON RESOLUTION NO. 4497
A JOINT RESOLUTION OF SIX SOUTHEAST LOS ANGELES COUNTY
CITIES COMMENDING ASSEMBLYWOMAN TERESA HUGHES
WHEREAS, Assemblywoman Teresa Hughes, former educator and current
member of the Assembly Education Committee, has successfully
won legislative approval for Constitutional Amendment ACA 22,
thus responding to the concerns of the citizens of Bell, Cudahy,
1 Huntington Park, Maywood, South Gate and Vernon, and
,
WHEREAS, such corrective legislation was essential to allow all voters
to pass judgement on an unfair election law that last year
denied some 160,000 Los Angeles County voters an opportunity
to cast ballots on a Los Angeles City charter measure that
would have restructured the Los Angeles Board of Education, and
WHEREAS, Assemblywoman Hughes' legislation now gives all voters in the
next General Election an opportunity to correct patchwork dis-
enfranchisement locally and throughout the State, and
WHEREAS, the Hughes Amendment will insure all citizens of the Southeast
area who pay school taxes and send their children to schools in
. the Los Angeles Unified School District the right to vote on
all school matters.
NOW~ THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Councils of the Cities of
Bell, Cudahy, Huntington Park, South Gate, Maywood and Vernon
do hereby gratefully commend Assemblywoman Teresa Hughes for
outstanding legislative achievement.
