RESOLUTION NO. 4498
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON ESTAB-
LISHING, SAIARIES FOR SERGEANTS AND PATROLMEN REPRESENTED BY
VERNON POLICE OFFIC~S BENEFIT ASSOCIATION (EMPLOYEE GROUP 2)
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON RESOLVES AS FOLUMS:
WHEREAS, the Vernon Police Officers Association has been
recognized as an employee organization, pursuant to Resolution
No. 4027 of the City Council of the City of Vernon, and met and
conferred with the Municipal Employee Relations Representative
(hereinafter HERR) prior to June 14, 1976; and
WHEREAS, the Association, and the HERR executed a Memo-
randum of Understanding (hereinafter MOU) dated June 15, 1976;
and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon adopted
Resolution No. 4419 on June 15, 1976 approving and ratifying the
MOU; and
WHEREAS, Section 2.2 of said MOU provided that "effective
August 1, 1977, the salaries for the classification of patrolman
and sergeant shall be determined as provided in Sections 2.2.1
and 2.2.2"; and
WHEREAS, Section 2.2.1 of said MOU provides that the
salaries for the top grade of the patrolman classification shall
be set at the median of the salaries for the top grade of patro1-
man classification in effect for the fiscal year commencing
July 1, 1977 in the following cities: Alhambra, Arcadia, Bell,
E1Segundo, Glendale, Hawthorne, Hermosa Beach, Huntington Park,

Pomona, and South Gate; and
WHEREAS, Section 2.2.2~of said MOU provides that the
salary for the top grade of the sergeant classification shall be
set at the median of the salaries for the top grade of sergeant
classification in effect for the fiscal year commencing July 1,
7 1977 in the following cities: Arcadia, Compton, Culver City,

El Segundo, Glendale, Hawthorne, Huntington Park, Pomona,
Santa Monica and South Gate; and
WHEREAS, Section 2.2.3 of said MOU provides that in the
event that the salary of patrolman or sergeant in any of the
cities listed above for the fiscal year commencing July 1, 1977
cannot be ascertained prior to August 1, 1977, the city shall be
dropped from the comparison for that classification and the
median shall be arrived at by reference to the remaining cit'ies.
WHEREAS, the City Clerk/Director of Finance has surveyed
the cities specified in said MOU and in accordance with Section
2.2.1, 2.2.2 and 2.2.3 has determined that the increase effective
August 1, 1977 shall be 8.5% for patrolman and 8.3% for sergeant.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
Section 1: The the City Council of the City of Vernon
does hereby establish the salary for the top grade of the
patrolman classification at $1,614 and establishes the salaries
for the remaining grades of the patrolman classification as
follows:

Section 3: That the establishment of said salaries set

19 forth herein are effective August 1, 1977 and remain subject to
20 all terms, covenants and conditions contained in said MOU.
21 Section 4: In the event said salaries cannot be paid to
22 employees during the normal pay period the Finance Director is
23
authorized to make payment to said employees by special check
24
wherein deductions shall be made and reported to the Public
25
Employees Retirement System including said payment in the base
26
27 salary period beginning August 1, 1977.

Step 4 ----- $1393.00
Step 3 ----- $1464.00
Step 2 ----- $1536.00
Step 1 ----- $1614.00
Section 2: That the City Council of the City of Vernon
does hereby establish the salary for the top grade of the
sergeant classification at $1,901 and establishes the salaries
for the remaining grades of the sergeant classification as
follows:
Step 4 ----- $1738.00
Step 3 ----- $1791.00
Step 2 ----- $1845.00
Step 1 ----- $1901.00

Section 5:
That the City Clerk of the City of Vernon
shall certify to the passage of this Resolution and thereupon
and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
