A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON URGING LEGISLATION TO ASSUgE THE
EARLY CONSTRUCTION OF THE PERIPHERAL CANAL
UNIT OF THE STATE WATER PROJECT .

6 WHEREAS, it is well established that future water demands
7 require the development of additional water sources; and
8 WHEREAS, the Peripheral Canal Unit of the State Water
9 Project is one of the most vital elements needed to utilize that
10 project to its fullest intended potential; and
11 WHEREAS, the Peripheral Canal is a segment of the State
12 Water Project essential toward fulfilling the entitlement of
13 the State project to Southern California; and
14 WHEREAS, the construction of the Peripheral Canal serves
15 the best interest of the City.
16 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
17 THE CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1: That the City Council of the City of Vernon
19 urges passage of legislation to assure the early construction of
20 the Peripheral Canal;
21
SECTION 2: That the City Council of the City of Vernon
22 directs the City Clerk to distribute this Resolution among the
23 legislators.

SECTION 3: That the City Council of the City of Vernon
25 directs the City staff to inform the public on this matter.

SECTION 4: That the City Clerk of the City of Vernon
27 shall certify to the passage of this Resolution and thereupon and

1 thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
2 APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 17th day of April, 1979.
