A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON ESTABLISHING A FOUR DAY WORKWEEK

5 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon intends
6 to implement a "pilot" program providing a four day work week;
7 and,
8 WHEREAS, there are a significant number of City
9 employees who commute to the City from outlying communities; and,
10 WHEREAS, the City of Vernon has experienced a decrease
11 in the need for services in many of its departments during
12 Friday of a normal work week; and,
13 WHEREAS, it is anticipated that gasoline will be in
14 short supply during the Summer months; and,
15 WHEREAS, the implementation of a four day work week
16 will relieve City employees from contributing to the energy
17 shortage; and,
18 WHEREAS, ~6702 of the Government Code provides that
19 the public offices of a City shall bec,lo:sedondt:.ho:se. ho:lId.da.y.s:
20 enumerated in ~6700 unless otherwise provided for by resolution;
21 and,
22 WHEREAS, the City of Vernon has established City holidays
23 and vacations by Resolution No. 4115 and 4225.
24 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
25 THE CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1: That the City Council of the City of Vernon
27 does hereby find and determine that the recitals contained herein-
28 above are true and correct.

SECTION 2: That the City Counctl of the City o~ Vernon
2 does hereby establish as a "pilot" program a ,four day work week
3 for approved employees wo::r:-king in approved pos:itions during the
4 perI.od~rom July 1,1979 tn.rough and including October 28,1979.

SEC'.J;'J:ON 3: 'l'nat the. City Administrator is hereby given
6 the a,u.tnQri,ty to approve for inclusion in the four day work week
7 "pilot" prog::r:-am emplQyee$: working in spec:if ic positions.

SECTJ:.QN 4: EmplQyee$ shall work a work day starting at
9 7;00 a.m. to 5;30 p.m~ or from 6;30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a
10 naIf. hour luncn break and two15,...,minute coffee breaks. The City

12 employees to wo::r:-k the a,ppropr;i:.ate shift upon the recommendation
