A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON OPPOSING CLASSIFICATION OF THE
TUOLOMNE RIVER AS A WILD AND SCENIC RIVER
AND SUPPORTING THE CLAVEY-WARDS FERRY PROJECT

6 HWEREAS, the City of Vernon is a public agency which
7 supplies continuing and uninterrupted electric power within its
8 boundaries; and,
9
WHEREAS, there is an ever increasing demand in Californi
10 for electrical energy; and,
11 WHEREAS, the generating resources to meet such demands
12 are not adequate; and,
13 WHEREAS, the state and the nation are suffering an
14 energy crisis of monumental proportion.
15 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
16 THE CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of Vernon does
18 hereby find and determine that the recitals contained hereinabove
19 are true and correct.

SECTION 2: The City Council of the City of Vernon be on
21 record as opposing the classification of the Tuolumne River as
22 a Wild and Scenic River and supporting the Clavey-Wards Ferry
23 Project, a joint venture of the Turlock Irrigation District,
24 Modesto Irrigation District and the City and County of San
25 Francisco. The City Council of the City of Vernon further
26 recommends that said project be allowed to move forward unhampered
27 and without delay as the best possible multiple water and energy
28 use of this river.

SECTION 3: That the City Clerk of the City of Vernon

shall certify to the passage of this Resolution and thereupon

and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.

ADOPTED AND APPROVED this 18th day of September, 1979.
