Resolution No. 4832 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 RESOLUTION NO. 4832 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON SUPPORTING THE BOOKS TON INITIATIVE INCREASING THE TERMS OF PUNISH~mNT FOR THE CRIMES OF ROBBERY AND BURGLARY WHEREAS, there is presently being circulated a Petition to submit directly to the voters of California an initiative measure cited as the ~Bookston Initiative", to add sections to the Penal Code increasing the terms of punishment for the crimes of robbery and burglary or the intent to commit robbery or burglary; and WHEREAS, the "Bookston Initiative" further provides that probation shall not be granted, nor execution or imposition of sentences be suspended for any person convicted of the crimes of robbery and burglary; and WHEREAS, the "Bookston Initiative" also provides that the Legislature may not lessen or decrease the terms of punishmen imposed for the commission of these crimes; and ~vHEREAS, support of the "Bookston Initiative" would be in the best interests of the City of Vernon. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1: That the City Council of the City of Vernon supports the passage of the "Bookston Initiative". SECTION 2: That the City Clerk of the City of Vernon is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to each legislative representative of the City of Vernon and to the Mayor of the City of Huntington Park.
