RESOLUTION NO. 4844
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON ENDORS ING.. THE PERIPHERAL CANAL
PROPOSAL ON THE 1982 JUNE BALLOT
WHEREAS, it is well established that future water
demands require the development of additional water sources; and
WHEREAS, the Peripheral Canal Unit of the State Water
Project is one of the most vital elements needed to utilize that
project to its fullest intended potential; and
WHEREAS, the Peripheral Canal is a segment of the State
Water Project essential toward fulfilling the entitlement of
the State project to Southern California; and
WHEREAS, the construction of the Peripheral Canal
serves the best interests of the City of Vernon; and
WHEREAS, in 1985, because of a Supreme Court ruling,
completion of the Arizona Water Project will result in a
60-percent cut in the amoupt of Colorado River water available
to Southern California residents; and
v.1HEREAS, this means that there will be a critical
water supply .situation in Los Angeles County unless additional
water sources are developed.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF VERNON AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: ~hat the City Council of the City of Vernon
endorses the Peripheral Canal proposal which will be on the 1982
June ballot and urges all civic groups and chambers of commerce
to support this important project.
SECTION 2: That the City Council of the City of Vernon

1 directs the City staff to inform the public on this matter.

SECTION 3: That the City Clerk of the City of Vernon
3 shall certify to the passage of this Resolution and thereupon and
4 thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
5 APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 6th day of October, 1981.
